"...Get into Tokyo University? The goal of senior year of high school, in the end, is just getting into university, right?"
“This isn’t a problem for you either,” Tomatsu Yuka said with a smile. “Last year, three people got into the University of Tokyo.”
"Does being a senior in high school necessarily mean facing some kind of hardship and obstacle?" The boy shrugged.
The two walked into the second floor, where the noise in the corridor grew wildly like weeds, and the classrooms they passed were filled with the sounds of cleaning and moving desks and chairs.
“That makes sense.” The girl smiled; her situation was actually the same as Matsueda Jun’s. “Then let’s just get through this year peacefully.”
"Otherwise what?" The boy glanced at her. "Do you want to compete with Mochizuki for the position of leader of Yuukoka High School?"
Although she didn't know what Jun Matsue was talking about, Tomoka Tomatsu still laughed happily.
A few minutes later, the two of them, carrying thick stacks of documents and notices, followed Kominato Shoko out of the office.
"I didn't expect to have to prepare for the Kawai Juku mock exam so soon after the start of the semester..." The boy glanced at the exam notice in his arms.
"This is the atmosphere of senior year," the female teacher said, her low-heeled shoes clicking as she greeted the students walking towards her.
"Preparing for higher education means facing this kind of situation, unlike the first and second years of high school—a year full of exams, and everyone has to work hard to adapt!"
The boy and girl nodded in unison, "Understood."
The first thing the homeroom teacher did upon arriving in the classroom was to rearrange the seats. The three students in the back row remained in their original positions, but they all moved closer to the window.
"The last year!" After a simple greeting, Kominato Shoko gently tapped the podium. "No matter what kind of days you've been through before, it's time to adjust your mindset now."
"The day I leave Yuqiu High School is just around the corner. Teachers and parents have talked to me countless times about how to choose my future and how to strive for it."
"The important thing is what each person thinks—"
"No one wants to live a life of going through school and getting a job in a daze, without understanding what's going on, and entering society without even knowing how much tax they have to pay," right?
A burst of laughter, not entirely frivolous, filled the classroom.
"So think about it! And then work hard!" The female teacher placed her hands on the podium and looked at each of the students below.
"Everyone is at an age where they have wishes and aspirations, and in order to realize them, they must be prepared to put in all their sweat and time."
"I will stay by your side and witness all of this together!"
As the words fell, a chorus of footsteps and chatter erupted outside the teaching building. The entrance ceremony was over, and the new students and their parents walked out of the auditorium.
"Next, please proceed to the auditorium for the inauguration ceremony."
"Make sure to use this time to get your mind in order, because starting tomorrow, there will be a barrage of tests and exercises!"
Sitting in the bright and magnificent auditorium, Jun Matsuoka withdrew his gaze from the principal on the stage and looked at the seats on both sides.
To the right sat Tomatsu Tomoka, the girl sitting upright with a gentle smile on her face, as if she were listening attentively to the principal's speech.
However, her left hand was kneading the boy's fingers, and if no one disturbed her, the girl could probably keep playing like this forever.
To her left was Mochizuki Haruka, who covered her mouth and yawned, looking utterly bored. She didn't notice the little thing someone else was doing on the other side.
Unlike most students, neither Jun Matsue nor the girls sitting on either side of him need to worry too much about their future.
So when those pent-up emotions and energy come together, their final year is destined to give birth to many stories.
Chapter 505 Volunteer Investigation, Spring Rain, and Shelter
As always, the scores for the first mock exam of the new semester were not made public. After exchanging information with each other, the students in Class 6 of Grade 3 could only come to one conclusion.
Jun Matsue, with a total score of 813, and Yuka Tomatsu, with a total score of 825, undoubtedly occupied the top two positions in the class—and barring any unforeseen circumstances, the two should also be leading the entire grade.
"Eight hundred and thirteen..." Miyamura Aya kept repeating the number, as if she were chanting some kind of spell, "What level is this?"
Jun Matsueda leaned against the corridor wall, watching the figures walk past him. "Based on the deviation value, it's about seventy-five, while for Yuka it's seventy-six."
The girl took out her phone and searched for a bit, then looked up in surprise, "Getting into Tokyo University is no problem at all!"
The boy shook his head. "I've only qualified to apply. I still have to take the school's entrance exam. Although the situation is quite ideal, I can't be careless."
The exams at Kawai Juku were relatively simple; Matsueda Jun had overheard the teachers talking about this when he went to Kominato's office before.
"The purpose of the Kawai test is to boost the children's confidence, while the Jundae test is to temper their arrogance."
"That's still pretty impressive!" Miyamura Aya rolled her eyes at him. "Anyway, it's definitely impossible for me."
"You don't need to go to Tokyo University." The boy looked at the guitar pick necklace around the girl's neck. "Just enjoy high school life and plan your future while you're at it."
Jun Matsueda only decided to apply to the University of Tokyo because he had the ability to do so.
"I know, as long as I can support myself in the future, that's fine," Aya giggled. "I'm already the president of the Light Music Club, and I've been preparing for club recruitment these past few days~"
"You've become a minister?" Jun Matsue looked her up and down. "With your mediocre guitar skills?"
"What are you talking about!" The girl raised her head. "I'm just a part-time rhythm guitarist, okay! I sing so well, why can't I be a club president!"
"Yes Yes……"
The two chatted about the light music club and the band. When the lunch break bell rang, the girl walked down the stairs with cheerful steps, and Jun Matsueda entered the classroom.
"What did Tsun-kun and Aya-chan talk about?" Tomatsu Yuka looked up as the boy returned to his seat.
"The mock exams, and club recruitment."
Jun Matsue picked up a stack of forms from the table and walked up to the podium.
"This is the first volunteer survey of this semester. The results of the previous mock exams have been released. Please consider your own situation carefully and submit the completed form to me before this Friday."
The boy walked down from the podium to distribute forms. When he reached the last row of seats by the window, the girl who had taken the paper grabbed his sleeve.
"Is Matsue planning to apply to the University of Tokyo?" Mochizuki Haruka asked, tilting her cool yet delicate face up.
"Hmm." Jun Matsueda nodded. "If you can get in, why not go?"
"..." The girl's expression was somewhat aggrieved, just like the gray sky outside the window.
The Mochizuki family practices a happy education approach. Although her grades are quite good, it is still extremely difficult for her to get into the University of Tokyo.
As if to kick her while she was down, Tomatsu Yuka, sitting on the other side, spoke with a smile.
"I didn't expect my score to be higher than Jun-kun's this time."
The girl didn't mean to show off; she genuinely felt that Matsueda Jun was better than her, and given their current relationship, she didn't think her words would hurt the boy's pride.
The boy wasn't surprised at all, "because Tomatsu is better at math than me."
Once you've achieved a certain level of excellence in humanities subjects, memory becomes less important for exams—because exams aren't knowledge-based, and most questions won't be too obscure.
Putting aside memory, Jun Matsueda is not exactly a gifted individual, so it's not surprising that he lost to a true prodigy.
"Is it because you don't spend that much time on math?" Tomatsu Yuka said with a smile. "If you're planning to improve your math grades, I can help you."
Jun Matsue returned to his seat with the last form. "We'll talk about it later."
The girl nodded obediently, "In any case, at least it's a good omen for the start of school, and it's worth celebrating."
Mochizuki Haruka, standing to the side, turned her back to the two of them, gazing at the slightly gloomy sky outside the window without saying a word.
After school in the afternoon, Jun Matsue walked out of the classroom with the crowd and came to the ground floor of the school building. The sound of fine, rustling rain flowed into his ears.
"It's raining." Tomatsu Yuka, walking beside him, unzipped her backpack, rummaged around for a while, and then looked up helplessly.
"I forgot my umbrella."
On the other side, Mochizuki Haruka glanced over. If the girl hadn't been in a bad mood today because of the volunteer survey, she would have definitely turned someone's bag upside down to check if it was real or fake.
"Then you can use my umbrella." Jun Matsue opened the umbrella, and Yuka Tomatsu took his arm and stepped under it.
Wang Yueyao walked to the left of the boy, keeping a distance that was neither too close nor too far from them. The footsteps of the crowd stepped on the puddles on the road, and the waves that rose in the puddles covered the ripples of the raindrops.
Upon arriving at the school gate, the girl holding an umbrella alone stopped, and Jun Matsue looked at her.
"I'm not staying at the apartment tonight." Mochizuki Haruka was still thinking about the volunteer survey form in her bag; she needed to go back to the mansion to ask her aunt for advice.
"Then how will you get back?" Jun Matsue looked around the road in front of the school gate but couldn't find the black car that he knew so well.
The girl took her phone out of her pocket. "The car is stuck in traffic. It'll be a while before we get there."
"Then I'll wait with you for a while," the boy said without hesitation.
“…Okay.” Mochizuki Haruka smiled, her originally calm eyes curving into crescent moons.
She felt much better because Jun Matsue hadn't consulted the other girl when he said he wanted to stay with her.
Tomatsu Yuka, who was quietly watching the crowd at the intersection, smiled. She didn't look at Mochizuki Haruka, but continued to hold the boy's arm, showing her feelings through her actions.
The three of them walked to the eaves of the guardhouse and put away their umbrellas. Ten minutes later, a black sedan stopped in front of them. The driver opened the car door and, holding an umbrella, nervously greeted his young mistress.
Before getting on the bus, Mochizuki Haruka turned around and waved to the boy, her beautiful lips moving silently.
"You're not allowed to bring her home," the girl said.
Jun Matsue turned his head. Tomatsu Yuka was standing on the other side of the eaves, chatting with a girl who was taking shelter from the rain, and did not look at them.
After the car drove away, splashing water, Jun Matsue walked over to the girl who had been left behind.
"The rain shows no signs of letting up, let me take you to the station first."
“Okay.” Tomatsu Tomohana nodded happily. “Spring in Tokyo is like that, it rains every few days!”
However, after the two set off again, the drizzling spring rain began to intensify, and the sound of the heavy rain was like vegetables being stir-fried in a wok.
The single umbrella was about to become useless. Tomatsu Yuka, who was hunched over under the eaves, tugged at the boy's sleeve and pointed to the building by the roadside.
"At this rate, both Jun-kun and I will be soaked. Let's go somewhere to take shelter from the rain."
Jun Matsue looked up at the bright sign the girl was pointing to; it was a karaoke bar frequented by students from the neighborhood.
He breathed a sigh of relief.
Thankfully, it wasn't a love hotel.
Chapter 506 Karaoke for Two
Listening to the pattering rain outside the glass door, Jun Matsueda stood in the karaoke lobby, watching the girl beside him press the button on the beverage machine.
The warm, light brown liquid flowed down, and Tomatsu Yuka picked up the cup, took a sip, and showed a satisfied expression.
"The Royal Milk Tea tastes pretty good." She looked at the boy beside her. "What would you like to drink, Chun-jun?"
"I don't want a hot drink, orange juice will do."
So the girl took another glass of orange juice and handed it to the boy. The two sat down on a small sofa against the wall, watching the dense rain covering the city outside the door.
The dark clouds seemed determined to cry their hearts out, showing no signs of stopping. Customers who were about to leave were also trapped in the hall. They stood in front of the counter chatting and, together with the shop assistant, eyeing the young men and women in the corner.
Before some clueless men and women could muster the courage to strike up a conversation, Tomatsu Tomoka covered her lips with her left hand and whispered in Matsueda Jun's ear.
"It's a bit awkward sitting here, how about we order a private room?"
Two minutes later, Jun Matsue closed the door to the private room. When he walked to the sofa, the girl who had sat down first had already taken off her coat, revealing the sailor uniform she was wearing underneath. The semi-transparent fabric on her right shoulder revealed a bit of flesh color.
"My jacket is quite wet." Tomatsu Yuka smiled with a troubled expression and placed her uniform on the seat next to her.
"Tsun-kun, why don't you take off your coat too?" She knew that the boy's clothes were actually wetter than hers, because he was trying to take care of her.
Jun Matsue took off his coat and draped it over the back of the sofa. "Be careful not to catch a cold."
"It's not that cold indoors, is it?" The girl smiled, shifted her position so that their legs and arms were touching, and then picked up the karaoke machine on the table in front of her and started operating it.
Jun Matsue picked up his cup, leaned back on the sofa, and drank his orange juice while watching Yuka Tomatsu examine the machine in her hands.
The girl didn't lean against the sofa like he did; the boy could only see her back. The slightly damp fabric of her sailor uniform shimmered under the overhead light.
Her slender back and waist outlined a well-proportioned and smooth body curve, and her black hair, hanging down over her shoulders, was slightly damp—her body displayed a unique beauty of fragility and desolation under the bright light, tempting one to play with it at will.
So Jun Matsue sat up to observe the girl's profile, her fingers tapping on the tablet screen, making soft clicking sounds.
The boy stared blankly at the changing colors on the screen.
Three days into the new semester, during the breaks between exams, Jun Matsuoka sometimes reflects on his current life, in addition to studying.
After his chance encounter with Yami Maki at the coffee shop that day, the turmoil in his heart regarding his senior had completely subsided.
Whether it's revenge or resentment, when you no longer care about someone, these thoughts and emotions cease to have meaning.
Jun Matsue felt that his life was about to enter the next stage, and the only thing that remained was this room at this moment, and this unreal relationship between lovers.
It seemed like this situation should end soon, the boy thought. He snapped out of his reverie and looked at the girl beside him; Tomatsu Yuka was still looking at her tablet, her eyelashes fluttering slightly.
What was she thinking? Jun Matsueda suddenly became curious about this question.
