Chapter 54 Enemies Meet on a Narrow Road
The people around him turned around and glanced at him, letting out bursts of snickers. Someone teased, "Hey, you look really good! Are you going to be the groom?"
"Hey, be serious, this is a fight." Uga straightened his suit collar and shook hands with everyone around him with a smile: "How are you?"
Long time no see, how have you been?
A burly, bearded Turk standing in the center, who appeared to be a leader, frowned. "Excuse me, friend, I don't remember you. May I ask who you are?"
"I am Uga! Have you forgotten? Uga Abbasaf, from Azerbaijan." Uga smiled broadly and pointed to Hu Yi and Li Baoqing not far away: "Look, everyone look! Those two are my men who followed me to fight!"
The bearded man glanced at the two men, then looked at him with a puzzled expression: "Those two are—Chinese? Korean?"
"That's right! Chinese!" Uga exclaimed excitedly, gesturing wildly. "Kung Fu, Bruce Lee, you know? Hey! Ha! Adada adada! It's really awesome!"
The bearded man smiled slightly, reached out to straighten Uga's tie, then patted him lightly on the chest twice before turning away and ignoring him. Uga, however, was still not satisfied and kept nagging around the others, desperately trying to let everyone know that he had brought his underlings with him today.
Most of the group were dressed in jeans, T-shirts, or khaki shirts, with a few in sportswear. Only Wuga was jumping around in an oversized suit. While others spoke to him with a teasing tone, he always appeared serious. Li Baoqing sighed softly, "Your classmate is quite the character."
"Yeah, he's always acting all high and mighty." Hu Yi felt a pang of sympathy. "But he's also quite pitiful; it seems like everyone looks down on him."
"Yeah, those two thousand four hundred rubles were a complete waste." Li Baoqing paused. "Shouldn't we head out now?"
"Wait a minute, let's say hello to Wuga." Just as Hu Yi was about to call Wuga over, the crowd suddenly stirred again, and everyone craned their necks to look across the open space.
Hu Yi and Li Baoqing followed and looked into the distance. The area opposite the open space looked like the edge of an ant market. There were many abandoned shipping containers piled up around it. A large group of bald men wearing leather jackets and boots walked out from between the containers and stood in the open space dozens of meters away.
"They're here so soon?" The two immediately tensed up. Li Baoqing took a step back and whispered, "There are a lot of skinheads. Let's get out of here quickly."
Hu Yi spat out his chewing gum: "Find a good time, and try not to let anyone else see."
Before the words were even finished, the bearded Turk leading the group raised his fist and strode towards the skinheads. The crowd behind him immediately stopped their commotion and dispersed to follow him slowly. The two men, positioned on the outer edge of the middle of the group, had no choice but to grit their teeth and move forward with him.
The skinheads opposite them started yelling and taunting, while the multinational coalition, mainly composed of Turks, shouted in different languages and quickened their pace. Hu Yi and Li Baoqing also shouted a few times, but they slowed down and moved further and further to the side, eventually falling behind.
The shouts and curses grew increasingly chaotic, drawing everyone's attention to the other side. Hu Yi seized the opportunity, patted Li Baoqing, turned, and quickly left the crowd, heading straight for the old buildings next to the open space.
They ran to a small building and hid behind the wall, peering into the open space. Various projectiles flew through the air, and the two sides were already engaged in close combat on their flanks. Although the multinational coalition was outnumbered, their average age was slightly older than the skinheads, and they were much stronger and more ferocious in battle, holding their own in the fight.
There were a lot of people on both sides, and it looked like a big fight, but more than 300 people fighting together really had no order or strategy. They were just a bunch of people crammed together like a big mob, shouting more than they were fighting.
The fighting on both sides of the outer perimeter was fierce, and several people were soon wounded. Some others recklessly ventured deep into the area alone, only to be chased and scattered, with many of them hiding in the building complex where they were.
The two were watching with a mixture of fear and excitement when they faintly heard police sirens in the distance. Li Baoqing exclaimed happily, "The police are here! We're safe now!"
Hu Yi hesitated for a moment, then said, "No, they might run away if they see the police. Once the skinheads split up, it will be dangerous on the road. We have to leave quickly."
"Yes, yes, let's go." Li Baoqing nodded hurriedly, and the two hurriedly returned along the way they came. However, the surrounding buildings were chaotic and disorganized, with rows of small buildings here and low walls there. While dodging the few bald-headed gang members who had escaped in, they wandered around the alley like headless flies, unable to find their way for a while.
Upon arriving at a row of small buildings, Li Baoqing yanked off his mask and asked anxiously, "Which way should we go? Are we lost?"
"Don't panic, let me see." Hu Yi wiped the cold sweat from his forehead, stopped to take a look, and suddenly heard someone above him say "Hey!"
The two men looked up simultaneously and saw an Asian face peering out of a second-floor window; the man appeared to be Vietnamese. He pointed to their right and shouted in a low voice in Russian, "Skinheads! Run!"
Hu Yi hurriedly turned his head to look, and sure enough, several bald men dressed in black were vaguely visible dozens of meters away, rushing towards them as if they were fleeing the battlefield. Without even thanking them, the two of them took off running in the other direction.
After running more than a hundred paces through winding paths, the skinheads were no longer in sight, and the sounds of fighting had faded into the distance. Only then did the two men breathe a sigh of relief. Li Baoqing looked around and exclaimed happily, "Old Hu! This place looks familiar. It should be close to the park where we met earlier."
Hu Yi took off the sunglasses that were dangling from his nose, put his hands on his hips and took a few breaths: "You idiot, what are you going to the park for? Just find a main road where you can hail a taxi."
"There's a main road near the park, so we won't get lost once we find the park." The two chatted as they walked, making small talk, until they reached the end of the path.
As soon as I turned the corner, I ran into two bald men. One of them had his left eye closed and half of his face was covered in blood. The other was tall and thin with a donkey-like face and teeth. He was wearing camouflage pants with drawstring cuffs and was carrying a baseball bat.
The four men stopped simultaneously, less than two meters apart. Hu Yi and Li Baoqing were startled and stood frozen in place; the two bald men were initially stunned, but after realizing that the two men standing in front of them were East Asians, a fierce glint gradually appeared in their eyes, though their faces still showed some hesitation.
The path was narrow, and they stood facing each other for a moment. The injured bald man hesitated slightly, then muttered something to the tall, thin man, and subtly shifted his shoulder, seemingly about to give way. Hu Yi tugged at Li Baoqing's sleeve: "Let's go."
Unexpectedly, Li Baoqing didn't move an inch, standing there like an iron tower, staring intently at the tall, thin man. Hu Yi asked in surprise, "What are you doing?"
"Hurry up!"
Li Baoqing ignored him and looked up at the tall, thin man, saying, "You, Valery?"
The tall, thin man was getting annoyed by Li Baoqing's stare when he suddenly heard him call his name. He asked in surprise and doubt, "Yes, who are you?"
"I'm your grandfather!" Li Baoqing roared, suddenly lunging forward and tackling the tall, thin man to the ground, throwing punches at him. The tall, thin man cursed and tried to grab the baseball bat, but Li Baoqing snatched it away and began smashing it down on his head. The tall, thin man cowered on the ground, protecting his head with his hands, screaming and looking utterly pathetic.
The sudden turn of events left Hu Yi bewildered as he watched Li Baoqing brutally beat the tall, thin man. His mind was filled with questions. The one-eyed bald man, clearly not expecting the attack, took a few steps back in shock, put two fingers in his mouth, and turned to whistle sharply and rapidly in all directions.
Hu Yi's heart skipped a beat. He quickly ran forward and swung his elbow at Hu Yi. The one-eyed man was whistling to the side, his half-face turned away from Hu Yi, and he didn't see him coming at all. He was hit squarely on the neck by the elbow and stumbled and fell against the wall.
Hu Yi kicked the injured side of his face several more times, and seeing that he couldn't get up for a while, he turned around and pulled Li Baoqing: "Quick, let's go! He's calling for help!"
Li Baoqing, however, remained relentless, beating the tall, thin man until he rolled on the ground, screaming in agony. Suddenly, several equally shrill whistles rang out nearby. Hu Yi shouted, "Run! The skinheads are here!"
Li Baoqing threw down his baseball bat, and the two of them took off running. They had only run a dozen meters when four or five bald men were already chasing after them, cursing angrily. Whistles continued to ring out from time to time around them. The two men were terrified and ran wildly until they reached a slightly open side road. Shouts and curses were coming from all directions, and they couldn't tell who was shouting.
Several bald men were running towards them from directly in front, some of them with blood on their faces, cursing and swearing. In the chaos, it was impossible to tell whether they were fleeing for their lives or trying to ambush them. The bald men behind them were still in hot pursuit, and their numbers had grown to nearly ten. Hu Yi and Li Baoqing panicked and turned to run to the left.
In the distance, they saw a row of buildings at the end of the road, with a low wall more than two meters high in front of them. Before they could think much about it, they ran closer and then cried out in distress: the buildings on both sides were very close to the row of buildings in front of them, and the low wall was right in between, completely blocking the road.
"Dead end!" Li Baoqing shouted.
"Climb over the wall!" Hu Yi didn't stop, rushed to the wall, leaped up, grabbed the top, and climbed up using both hands and feet. Li Baoqing followed closely behind. The two of them squatted on the wall and looked down, and were dumbfounded: the distance between the low wall and the opposite building was too narrow, almost touching, with no room to hide.
In the brief moment of hesitation, the skinheads had already caught up to the wall. Hu Yi pointed to the gap between the two buildings: "Quick! Go over the wall!"
The low wall beneath their feet was less than half a meter wide, with various pipes haphazardly strung along the walls on both sides. The two carefully squeezed sideways into the gap, moving sideways like crabs. Hu Yi looked to his right and saw the bald men climbing the wall one after another, and hurriedly urged, "Hurry! Hurry! They're catching up!"
"Still a dead end!" Li Baoqing cried out in despair, "There's a road blocking the way!"
Hu Yixin felt a chill run down his spine. He turned his head and saw an iron fence perched on the wall at the end of the two buildings, blocking his way. However, judging from the light and shadow, it didn't seem to be flush against the building. He moved a few more steps and was shocked to find that a fire escape staircase was hanging on the outside of the building, and the iron fence was connected to the outside of the escape staircase.
"There's a staircase! Hurry! Hurry!" Hu Yi twisted his body and squeezed through the gap between the stairs, climbed over the stair railing, turned around to let Li Baoqing pass, pushed all the crates and other debris piled up in the corner of the stairs into the gap between the walls to block his way, and then ran downstairs without looking back.
