Chapter 380 is good
Chapter 380 is good
The movie ticket had a line of small print: "Channel 4, 14:30, Ip Man 1".
Lu Ran stared at the line of text for several seconds, and suddenly found the matter quite interesting.
The script he wrote for his father-in-law was the framework for the entire Ip Man series, with the first part telling the story of Ip Man's journey from Foshan to Hong Kong.
The script depicts Ip Man's daily life in Foshan, his martial arts competition with Jinshan Zhao, his experiences during the Anti-Japanese War, and his eventual move to Hong Kong to open a martial arts school.
The main storyline is "how Ip Man became a grandmaster", while the subplot is "how Wing Chun was passed down in a chaotic world".
When he handed the script to Shen Zhiwei, Shen Zhiwei remained silent for a long time after reading it, and then said, "I have to film this script well."
In retrospect, Shen Zhiwei was indeed not lying to him.
The movie was filmed and released, and the premiere was held in Foshan.
"What are you thinking about? We're checking tickets." Shen Yuege tugged at him.
The two entered Hall 4 and found their seats.
The seat was in the middle to back, with a good view; you could see the entire screen.
The theater was packed, but for a newly released domestic action film, that was a pretty good result.
The audience was mostly young people, with a few middle school students in school uniforms sitting in the front row, holding popcorn and cola, chatting away.
Shen Yuege sat down, took off her coat and draped it over the back of the chair, leaned closer and whispered, "Do you think my dad might be here too?"
"Your dad? Isn't he in Shanghai?"
"I mean, will he send someone? It's the premiere, the production company will definitely be there. Besides, he's the director."
Lu Ran thought about it and felt that it made sense.
Although Shen Zhiwei was based in Shanghai, he was the one who invested in and directed the film.
It's impossible for them not to send someone to the premiere; Shen Zhiwei himself might be there, but he just didn't tell them.
But he didn't think much of it, because the scene on the screen ended and the movie started.
When the dragon emblem appeared, the theater fell silent.
The film opens with a shot of an old street in Foshan. Bluestone pavement, arcade buildings, breakfast stalls, and peddlers carrying loads on their shoulders as they walk through the streets and alleys.
The camera slowly zooms in, passing through an alley and arriving at the gate of a large mansion.
A plaque hangs above the door—"Ye Residence".
Ip Man has appeared.
He was wearing a long robe, sitting in the living room drinking tea, while several of his apprentices sat and chatted beside him.
One of my apprentices said that a boxing master from the north named Jin Shan Zhao came to Foshan and has been challenging martial arts schools everywhere. He has already beaten up several schools.
Another disciple said that Jin Shan Zhao had declared he was coming to challenge Ip Man, and asked Ip Man what to do.
Ip Man put down his teacup and said, "Let's eat first."
The whole audience laughed.
Lu Ran laughed too, not because the lines were funny, but because the atmosphere was so interesting.
This line from the first "Ip Man" movie was a classic, and he deliberately kept it when writing the script.
In retrospect, the actor's performance was even more natural than he had imagined.
The movie continues.
First, Master Liao comes to spar, which is also the first fight scene in this movie.
The audience's curiosity was piqued; they wanted to know just how skilled Master Liao was, that he dared to challenge the protagonist.
After closing the door, the two began their sparring match.
The fight scenes in the early stages were filmed very well. The back-and-forth moves between the two were very exciting, giving the audience a certain understanding of Master Liao's strength.
Then the scene shifts, and Ip Man not only defends against Master Liao's attack, but also counters and suppresses Master Liao, appearing to be in complete control.
This is the place my father-in-law took the best picture of.
By first portraying Master Liao, we let everyone know that Master Liao is a master, and then we will show Ip Man's strength later.
"You know what, the fight scenes were really well done. Foshan truly deserves its reputation as the hometown of martial arts."
"There are Wing Chun schools in Foshan now. I passed by there a few days ago. After watching this movie, I really want to go to the school to see real Wing Chun."
The exciting fight scene elicited some whispers from the audience.
Upon hearing this, Lu Ran couldn't help but smile.
The audience response was quite positive.
The subsequent plot involves Jin Shan Zhao leading a group of people to challenge Ip Man outside his house.
Ip Man didn't want to fight, so he closed the door and refused to go out. Jin Shan Zhao cursed outside, using very offensive language, until finally everyone couldn't stand it anymore and decided to let Ip Man teach him a lesson.
The fight scenes were filmed very well.
Jinshan uses Northern-style kung fu, characterized by its wide, powerful, and forceful movements.
Wing Chun is a Southern style of kung fu, characterized by short bridges, narrow stances, and close-quarters combat.
The two styles create a stark contrast on the screen.
As Lu Ran watched, he suddenly discovered something that surprised him—the film's martial arts director had captured the essence of Wing Chun.
It's not just some fancy, superficial routine; it truly explains the principles of Wing Chun.
The movements—spreading, shouldering, crouching, the "sun-shaped" punch, the inch punch—each had a back-and-forth motion, and after the fight, a slow-motion replay was shown so the audience could clearly see how the fight was performed.
This approach is exactly the same as the one used in the previous "Ip Man" series.
Lu Ran leaned back in his chair, his opinion of his father-in-law rising several points.
It seems that Shen Zhiwei at least actually hired a martial arts instructor who understands Wing Chun.
The fight between Ip Man and Jin Shanzhao in the house is the first climax of the entire film.
The two fought fiercely indoors, with Jin Shanzhao's punches whistling through the air, each punch seemingly designed to pierce through the opponent.
Ip Man didn't confront him head-on. Instead, he dodged and weaved, always sliding away when Jin Shan Zhao's fist was about to hit him, and then counterattacking when Jin Shan Zhao's fist was open.
Just then, Ip Chun appeared on a children's bicycle, saying, "Mom said, Dad, if you don't fight back, everything in the house will be smashed to pieces." This immediately made the audience burst into laughter.
Jinshan, enraged by the beating, grabbed a knife from a nearby stall and started slashing.
Ip Man had no weapon, so he casually tore off a bamboo pole from a feather duster and used it as a stick, quickly knocking Jin Shan Zhao's knife to pieces.
After this major event, it was clear that the plot was being pushed to an even higher level.
After being knocked down, Jinshan got up from the ground and left with his men.
At this point in the film, the first major conflict has ended, and the pace slows down. The screen begins to depict Ip Man's family life, his daily life with his wife Cheung Wing-sing, and his interactions with his son.
The film's pace quickens again during the section on the War of Resistance against Japan.
When the Japanese army occupied Foshan, Ip Man's mansion was requisitioned, and his family moved to a small, dilapidated house.
Ip Man had no income and relied on teaching boxing to earn a little money, but he lived a very difficult life.
That scene was filmed with great restraint, without any deliberate attempt to evoke emotion, but the oppressive atmosphere silenced the entire theater.
Lu Ran heard someone in the back row sniffing.
The climax of the entire film is when Ip Man, in order to avenge Master Liao, walks alone into the Japanese army's martial arts arena and defeats ten Japanese karate masters.
The line "I'm going to take on ten of them" has also left a deep impression on the audience.
On screen, after Ip Man finished off the last Japanese man, he stood there covered in blood, some from others and some from himself.
In the end, Ip Man didn't take the food they gave him. Instead, he took the portion that Master Liao was entitled to and left, leaving the Japanese officer standing there with a complicated expression.
Lu Ran leaned back in his chair, watching Ip Man's figure disappear into the alleyway on the screen, feeling a strange mix of emotions.
In his past life, he had watched "Ip Man" countless times and found it enjoyable every time, but never before had he felt that the movie had anything to do with him.
Today is different.
Today, as he sits here, watching his script be adapted for the big screen, seeing his lines delivered by actors, and witnessing his action sequences brought to life, he feels... like his own child has grown up and is standing on stage receiving an award, while he watches from below, wanting to both cry and laugh.
His patriotic heart and his hatred for Japan deepened even further.
When the movie ended and the end credits started playing, the lights in the theater came on.
Shen Yuege rubbed her eyes, stood up to put on her coat, and looked down at Lu Ran, who was still sitting in his seat: "Come on, what are you daydreaming about?"
Lu Ran stood up and followed the crowd out.
As they left the theater, Shen Yuege suddenly stopped, turned around, and looked at him: "You made a really good movie."
"I wrote the script."
"I know you wrote it. I'm talking about how well it was filmed. The director did a great job, the actors performed well, and the martial arts choreographer did a great job. Of course, most importantly, your script was excellent."
Lu Ran paused for a moment, then smiled.
Shen Yuege is right.
He used to think that anything taken from the system was the best.
But today he discovered that the system provides seeds, and how the seeds grow depends on the type of soil they are planted in, the type of water they are given, and the type of sun they are exposed to.
The same script, but different directors produce completely different results.
Shen Zhiwei's version reflects his own understanding of the story, rather than simply copying the script.
This illustrates one thing—Lu Ran can't rely on the system for everything.
The system can provide him with seeds, but he has to do the actual planting himself.
"Let's go." Shen Yuege took his arm. "My dad called you, didn't you hear him? There were several loud bangs in the theater just now."
Lu Ran took out his phone and saw that there were indeed three missed calls, all from Shen Zhiwei.
Just as he was about to call back, his phone vibrated again; it was Shen Zhiwei again.
"Hello, Dad."
"Son-in-law!" Shen Zhiwei's voice came from the other end of the phone. Although he tried to restrain himself, he couldn't suppress his excitement, especially after learning that his daughter and son-in-law had gone to see the premiere. He was even more thrilled: "Have you finished watching the movie?"
"Just finished watching it. Just came out of the theater."
"How was it? How did your dad do with the filming this time?"
Lu Ran thought for a moment and said one word: "Okay."
Shen Zhiwei laughed loudly on the other end of the phone: "Just one word? You should at least say a few more words! Do you know how many tens of millions your dad invested in this movie? And all you give me is one word?"
"How many words do you want?"
