Chapter 29 Lost and Found
Chapter 29 Lost and Found
Two more days passed. During this time, apart from his unwavering practice of the "Thirteen Taibao Horizontal Training" and cold weapons, Xu Mo devoted most of his time to familiarizing himself with the newly acquired firearms. He practiced shooting at the distant ruined walls and pre-set targets on the rooftop.
After two days, although he can't be called a sharpshooter yet, he has at least become proficient in basic operations such as aiming, firing, recoil control, and changing magazines with an AK rifle.
Xu Mo has also gained a basic understanding of the TT-33 pistol. Improving accuracy requires extensive live-fire shooting and time, but this is only a matter of time. The confidence he has gained from holding a real gun and having a basic grasp of its usage is something he couldn't have achieved before when he only had the cleaver.
However, human desires always rise with the improvement of one's abilities. Having acquired basic rifles and pistols, and with a temporary surplus of ammunition, Xu Mo's mind began to stir again.
He wouldn't give up.
Recalling the ecstasy he felt two days ago in that small villa when he first saw the sleek, deadly "AWM," and the immense disappointment he felt upon receiving it—its flimsy, plasticky texture—Xu Mo felt a lump in his throat, a profound sense of loss. The stark contrast between heaven and hell was something he couldn't shake off.
This unwillingness ultimately drove Xu Mo to once again shoulder his empty backpack, sling a pistol over his waist, and return to the three-story villa after another forty-eight-hour cooling-off period.
The security door was still ajar, and the "Armor Room" sign on it was still bright red and glaring. Xu Mo took a deep breath, suppressing the surging anticipation and a trace of trepidation in his heart, and placed his palm on the door.
"Open the door!"
The soft light shifts, and the scenery changes.
Xu Mo stepped inside, his gaze sweeping eagerly across the entire space.
It was still a room filled with guns!
Unlike last time when the weapons were neatly arranged, the firearms here are placed very haphazardly.
It's no longer the sophisticated showroom style; instead, it's more like a utilitarian equipment storage room. The walls still display a considerable number of firearms, but the types and arrangement seem slightly different from last time.
Xu Mo's heart began to pound uncontrollably, and his gaze searched rapidly like a searchlight.
found it!
On a freestanding gun rack on the right wall, he saw once again the AWM sniper rifle that haunted his dreams! The familiar design, the dark green paint, the long and powerful barrel…
Xu Mo suppressed his excitement, quickly stepped forward, and reached out to carefully touch the cold gun barrel.
Shen!
It felt solid and heavy with metal, a stark contrast to the flimsy plastic feel of the last one. Xu Mo gripped the gun tightly; the cold, solid touch was incredibly real. Xu Mo tried pulling the bolt, and a crisp, smooth metallic scraping sound rang out, revealing part of the barrel's structure.
It's real, this time it's a real AWM!
An indescribable sense of satisfaction instantly surged through his body, as if a past regret had finally been made up for. Xu Mo almost wanted to roar to the sky, but reason made him suppress this impulse.
Xu Mo quickly took the real AWM he had been dreaming of from the gun rack, feeling its substantial weight in his hand, and felt extremely at ease.
Next, his gaze swept over the ammunition rack next to him. The bullets stored here were clearly different from the 7.62mm caliber used in the AK last time; the packaging boxes were printed with the words .338 Lapua Magnum, which is the special ammunition used by the AWM sniper rifle! At a rough glance, there were at least four or five hundred rounds, and there were also several pre-loaded magazines of the same .338 next to them.
Besides the AWM and its ammunition, Xu Mo discovered other valuable items. In one corner, there was a military-grade binocular with intact lenses; several dark green individual water bottles; and a considerable quantity of individual rations and military-grade compressed biscuits piled up in several crates!
Time was of the essence, so Xu Mo immediately sprang into action.
He first quickly moved the precious AWM sniper rifle, the hundreds of .338 bullets, binoculars, and several individual water bottles outside the door; these were the core gains that he prioritized to secure.
Then, Xu Mo returned to his room and rushed to the individual rations and compressed biscuits. He opened his backpack and began stuffing it with these high-energy, easy-to-store military foods until the backpack was bulging and heavy again.
Just as Xu Mo zipped up his backpack, preparing to do one last quick check to make sure he hadn't missed anything, the sixty-second countdown ended.
That familiar pulling sensation came, and the scene before my eyes began to blur and distort.
The next second, Xu Mo appeared in the courtyard, carrying a backpack full of food, standing next to the pile of "treasures" he had just moved out—a real AWM sniper rifle, expensive and specialized ammunition, binoculars, a water bottle...
Looking at the unexpectedly large harvest on the ground, especially the AWM lying quietly, exuding a cold and aloof aura, Xu Mo finally revealed a joyful and satisfied smile.
Xu Mo did not immediately pack his things and leave. Instead, he stood there, letting the morning chill envelop him, his mind replaying the brief but information-rich sixty seconds that had just passed.
"It's a success, and even more successful than expected." Xu Mo looked down at the sleek AWM, a strong sense of satisfaction welling up inside him, not only because he had obtained it, but also because his judgment and choice had been proven to be correct.
He opened the same real-world door twice, both times marked with a "gun room" sign, but ended up in two different "gun rooms." This confirmed his earlier hypothesis: the general direction guided by the sign is stable, but the specific details and inventory behind the door seem to have a certain degree of randomness or "version" difference.
The first time was a paradise for model enthusiasts, while the second time was a more utilitarian equipment storage point. This deepened Xu Mo's understanding of the rules—the markers were not precision-guided, but rather defined a range, from which a scene would be randomly "selected" behind the door.
Xu Mo was also glad that he had exercised restraint. Faced with the temptation of a room full of guns, he adhered to the principle of "taking only what he needed".
The AWM fills the gap in its long-range combat capabilities, forming a perfect long-, medium-, and close-range firepower combination with the existing AK and pistols. While the other firearms may seem like a loss, they actually save the user valuable time and weight allowance.
If you greedily try to grab other weapons, you may not be able to safely transport the more important AWM, its special ammunition, and the crucial individual rations within sixty seconds.
Xu Mo did not intend to consume this food daily. His daily food source would still mainly rely on the small restaurant behind the "Welcome to Try" door. These individual rations and compressed biscuits, with extremely high calorie density, sturdy packaging, long shelf life, and easy portability, were precisely the emergency supplies and dry rations prepared for possible long-distance migrations or emergency outings in the future.
A cold wind blew by, ruffling Xu Mo's hair.
It's time to go back.
Xu Mo bent down, carefully hoisted the AWM rifle onto his back, and then meticulously organized the ammunition and supplies before heading back to his residence.
