Chapter 175
Chapter 175
Chen Hao glanced at him, and the corners of his mouth curved slightly—it was probably the closest Lin Feng had ever seen to a "smile" from him.
"You too," Chen Hao said. "Practice hard."
The two stood there for a while longer.
Gao Yuan ran out of the training hall, carrying a plastic bag containing several bottles of Arctic Ocean soda. He was panting heavily, and his forehead was covered in sweat.
"What are you two doing standing here? Aren't you hot?" He put the plastic bag on the steps and took out three bottles of soda. "Here, have a drink. I bought them from the corner store, they're ice-cold."
Lin Feng took it. The bottle was icy cold, and holding it in his hand, the warmth between his fingers was instantly sucked away. He used a bottle opener to pry open the cap, and a puff of white steam rose from the bottle. The sweet aroma of oranges wafted in the night breeze.
Chen Hao also took a bottle, but he didn't drink it. He just held it in his hand, letting the cool bottle touch his palm.
Gao Yuan plopped down on the steps, tilted his head back, took a big gulp, burped, and then wiped his mouth with his sleeve.
"Lin Feng, I saw you slap the floor in frustration when Zhang Lei stabbed you in the back today, that mistake you made."
Lin Feng took a sip of his soda. "Hmm. A mistake I shouldn't have made."
"Zhang Lei is quick," Gao Yuan said. "He's the provincial youth team's steal leader. You're not the first person he'll steal from behind, and you won't be the last. But he can't steal from you every time—you need to learn to protect the ball with your body, with your back to him, so even if his arms are long, he can't reach it."
Her backside was facing him.
Lin Feng imagined the scene in his mind and thought it made sense.
Chen Hao suddenly spoke up. "Gao Yuan, what are your plans for next year?"
Gao Yuan was taken aback. "What...what plans?"
"Play ball. Or go to school?"
Gaoyuan placed the soda bottle on his lap, looked at the old locust tree in the yard, and stared at it for a few seconds.
"I'll play basketball. My grades aren't good, and I'm good at nothing but basketball. My dad said if I can make it to the provincial team, great; if not, I'll go back and help him with his shop."
"What kind of shop do you own?" Lin Feng asked.
"Hardware store. Screws, nails, wrenches, paint, everything." Gao Yuan said this casually, but Lin Feng noticed that his fingers were unconsciously tapping on the soda bottle, one tap after another, with an unsteady rhythm.
The three of them silently drank half a bottle of soda.
The night breeze carried the fragrance of locust blossoms in waves, mingling with the sweetness of soda, creating an indescribable taste of summer.
"Lin Feng," Gao Yuan suddenly asked, "what do you want to do in the future?"
Lin Feng thought for a moment.
"Write software. Play ball."
Gao Yuan turned to look at him. "You want both?"
"Um."
"No conflict?"
"If there's enough time, none of them will conflict. If there's not enough time, then prioritize them."
Gao Yuan was silent for a moment, then laughed. "You talk like Old Li, all sorts of things."
Lin Feng smiled as well.
Chen Hao stood up and placed the unfinished soda bottle on the steps. "Let's go back. We have training tomorrow."
The three of them stood up and walked along the path in the courtyard towards the dormitory building. The streetlights cast long shadows of the three of them on the cement road, high and low, like three question marks of different shapes.
When Chen Hao reached the entrance of the dormitory building, he suddenly stopped.
"Lin Feng".
Lin Feng turned around.
"In tonight's tactics lesson, you answered the question correctly about the order of rotations on the weak side. When Coach Li said 'correct,' didn't you notice his lips twitch?"
