Chapter 149
Chapter 149
She straightened up and touched her hair. The ends of her hair had indeed grown quite a bit, almost reaching her waist.
"It's time to get it cut," she said. "I'll get it cut when you get back."
She squatted down again and continued tidying up.
Lin Feng didn't say anything more and turned to go to the living room.
Sitting on the sofa, he picked up the phone and dialed Sun Jianguo's pager number.
The paging operator answered and said, "Please call Mr. Sun Jianguo and leave a message: See you at the stadium at six o'clock tomorrow morning."
After hanging up the phone, he dialed Zhou Jianguo's pager number again and left the same message.
Then he leaned back on the sofa and stared at the ceiling.
The living room lights are fluorescent tubes, two in total. One end is already blackened, while the other end is still lit, but the light is not very even, casting patches of light and shadow in the corners. The fluorescent tubes occasionally flicker and hum, like a flying insect trapped in a glass dome.
He wanted to thank Sun Jianguo and Zhou Jianguo as well. Without these two people, he wouldn't be where he is today. One was a former provincial team player, and the other was a former provincial youth team player. These two "Jianguos" taught him selflessly on the cement court—one taught him technique, and the other taught him mindset.
He owes them, and he doesn't know when he'll be able to repay them.
Cheng Yuxin finished packing her luggage and came out of the room.
"Lin Feng, see if there's anything else we need."
Lin Feng stood up and went into the room.
The travel bag was bulging, and the zipper, pulled all the way up, could barely be closed. He pulled the zipper back and forth twice to make sure it wasn't stuck.
"We don't need any more."
Cheng Yuxin stood behind him, her hands in her hoodie pockets.
"Let's eat. I made your favorite dishes."
Four dishes were laid out on the table: braised pork ribs, sweet and sour fish, stir-fried greens, and a large bowl of seaweed and egg drop soup. The pork ribs were spare ribs, chopped into small pieces and stewed until very tender, the meat falling off the bone with the slightest touch. The fish was a crucian carp, not very big, but Cheng Yuxin pan-fried it until golden brown on both sides, then poured sweet and sour sauce over it, making a sizzling sound.
Lin Feng sat down and picked up his chopsticks.
Cheng Yuxin sat opposite him and picked up her chopsticks, but didn't eat much, glancing at him every now and then.
After eating most of it, Lin Feng put down his chopsticks.
"Yuxin, please be careful after I leave. Make sure the doors and windows are closed, and come back early tonight."
Cheng Yuxin smiled. "You're only sixteen, what right do you have to tell me what to do?"
"You're twenty, not that much older."
Cheng Yuxin picked up the soup bowl, took a sip, and looked at him from above the rim of the bowl.
"Got it. Don't push yourself too hard, and be careful not to get injured during training."
Lin Feng nodded.
After finishing his meal, he took the initiative to wash the dishes. Cheng Yuxin stood at the kitchen doorway, watching him wash them as usual. But today she didn't leave; she stood there until he finished washing, drying, and putting the dishes back on the dish rack.
"Lin Feng".
"Um?"
"Let me know if you stay with the provincial team."
Lin Feng turned around and looked at her.
She stood in the kitchen doorway, the light shining from behind her casting a warm yellow glow on her silhouette. Her face was in shadow, making her expression indistinct, but her eyes were bright.
"Okay," he said.
July 5th, 4 AM.
When Lin Feng woke up, it was still dark outside. He lay there for two minutes, then got up, dressed, and grabbed the ball.
When I walked into the living room, the kitchen light was on.
Cheng Yuxin stood in front of the stove, heating up milk. She was still wearing that pink loungewear, her hair casually tied up, and her face still showed signs of sleepiness. Steam rose from the pot on the stove, and the aroma of milk filled the entire kitchen.
