Chapter 113 Where is my gun?
The day flew by, and only one day remained until the press conference for the Mandel Brick was held.
"Hey, where's my M7? It's my only one! Let me find it."
The entire Special Operations Unit was in chaos early in the morning. Uluru was still lying in the infirmary receiving treatment when he suddenly couldn't remember where he had put his M7. He first asked Red Wolf to look for it in his room, but when Red Wolf returned and said he couldn't find it, Uluru, who was lying on the bed, couldn't stay still any longer.
"Damn it, damn it, damn it! We're supposed to start work tomorrow, but we're out of gear today. Don't tell Deep Blue yet, my injury hasn't healed."
Uluru ignored the lingering pain in his body, jumped off the bed and ran back to his room. He couldn't believe where his huge M7 had gone. Could such a big M7 really become invisible?
Zhang Hao was playing a game with Mai Xiaowen in the living room when he suddenly saw Uluru rush out of the infirmary looking flustered.
"Uncle Uluru, are your injuries all healed?"
Looking at the "revitalized" Uluru, Zhang Hao could only marvel at Roy and Zoya's superb medical skills.
Roy/Zoya: No, we found a better doctor than us, the one who's still in the kitchen preparing lunch.
Deep Blue: Hmph~ Hmph~ Hmph~ We'll be doing a mission tomorrow, so let's make Xiao Hao his favorite braised chicken leg today!
Uluru didn't have time to respond to Zhang Hao. At this moment, sweat was pouring down his forehead. He could already imagine how Deep Blue would treat him if he couldn't find his gun and had to sheepishly go to report to Deep Blue.
"No, no, we absolutely have to find it! Please, please don't let anything go wrong now!!!"
Uluru leaped into his room right under Zhang Hao and Mai Xiaowen's astonished eyes, followed by the sound of rummaging through drawers and cabinets.
Before long, a sound like a pig being slaughtered came from inside.
"Oh no!!! I can't find it!!!"
Uluru walked out of the room, looking dejected. Although the Special Operations Department did have spare firearms, he was the only one who had applied for an M7 last month. If Deep Blue found out, his still-unrecovering body would probably be in serious trouble.
Unable to find the M7, Uluru dejectedly shuffled down the stairs, collapsing beside Zhang Hao with a look of utter despair, and said in a tragic manner:
"Hey Hao, next year on this day, remember to burn some paper money for your Uncle Uluru, and remember me too. o(TヘTo)"
Looking at the time, it was almost lunchtime, and it was also almost time for Deep Blue to finish off his weakened state. Uluru pulled out a flask from somewhere, took a deep gulp, and then peacefully collapsed onto the sofa, awaiting death.
"Hehehe, see? I told you that the M7 from Uluru wasn't good enough. My Tamron is much better!"
Just as Zhang Hao and Mai Xiaowen were looking at each other in bewilderment, Wei Long and Terry walked in, chatting and laughing, each carrying a gun.
Upon hearing the name M7, Uluru instantly sprang to life. Now, upon hearing the name M7, it was as if he had a nervous reflex, immediately fixing his gaze on the M7 in Terry's hand.
"My M7!!!"
Uluru pounced like a bear, snatching the M7 from Terry's hand amidst the stunned gazes of the four. He rolled to the side, and upon seeing the intact M7 in his hand, Uluru could no longer contain himself and began to kiss it.
"Waaaaah, I missed you so much, my M7! I almost never saw you again! Do you know how desperate I was when I couldn't find you?! Yes! Terry, how did my M7 end up in your hands?!"
Uluru glared at Terry, who had almost killed him. Luckily, he was found, but Uluru said he was still scared to death. Terry had to give him an explanation.
"Um... Uluru, do you remember the day before yesterday you asked me to adjust your gun this morning? I took it yesterday. Didn't you go solo with Deep Blue then? So after I finished adjusting it this morning, I went to the shooting range with Dragon to test it out. We just got back."
After listening to Terry's words, Uluru and the others fell silent, and now everyone's attention was once again focused on Uluru.
Uluru: Huh? Really? Is that true? Hehehe, I might have forgotten.
"Uncle Uluru, you haven't... forgotten, have you?"
Zhang Hao tilted his head and asked innocently, while Terry looked at Uluru, who was sweating profusely again, with a serious expression.
"Uluru, have you really forgotten? You said you'd give me a bottle of wine after you finished mixing it, where's the wine now?"
Uluru glanced out of the corner of his eye at the flask lying quietly on the sofa with only a little left, and the long-forgotten memories in his mind began to awaken.
Oh no, this bottle of wine was the one I was going to give to Terry. Now I'm doomed.
Uluru's expression froze instantly. He looked at the flask and then at Terry, whose face was dark, and for a moment he didn't know what to say.
"Huh? What's that? My wine?"
Terry, noticing Uluru's shifting gaze, naturally spotted the flask on the sofa and squeezed his way over.
"Hey, don't!"
Uluru considered making a token attempt to stop him, but Terry had already reached the sofa, picked up the flask, shook it, and after finding only a little left, turned to look at the sweating Uluru and questioned him:
"This is the wine you promised? Huh? Answer me!!!"
Uluru was overwhelmed by Terry's sudden roar and aura, and could only stammer:
"Well... um, I think I was a bit dazed yesterday, I'm still a little confused. Let me go back to the room and get you another bottle, don't worry!"
"You asked me to adjust your gun, and you were blaming me just now. Now even the wine we agreed on is gone? Didn't you and Shenlan practice enough yesterday? Do you want to practice with me again? Do you think I'm easy to talk to and can be dealt with casually?"
Terry spoke as he walked towards Uluru, who could only helplessly retreat, muttering "No, no," looking exactly like... a young girl about to be violated. (The author can't continue writing)
"Alright, time to eat. Hmm? What are you guys doing? Getting to know each other?"
Just as Terry was about to offer Uluru a giant black steamed bun, Deep Blue's voice came from behind. Uluru, seeing Terry stop, secretly breathed a sigh of relief and quickly said:
"Don't worry, after I finish the task tomorrow, okay? I'll give you two bottles, no, three bottles as an apology, how about that?"
Seeing Uluru's pitiful state, Terry's anger subsided considerably. He snorted and turned to wash his hands to prepare for dinner.
Wei Long, standing to the side: That's it? I was hoping to see Uluru get beaten up again.
Chapter 114 Withdrawal
Unlike the bustling Special Operations Unit, the space base.
"Report, Ms. Demulan, the personnel you arranged have already set off and taken their positions ahead of schedule, but the tanks approved by headquarters are still on their way. They are expected to arrive at the space base tonight and be in position by tomorrow morning before the press conference."
Mary held up a tablet and reported the current situation to Demulan, recording all the details on the tablet. After a few days of getting used to it, Mary was becoming more and more adept at helping Demulan handle matters.
Moreover, Mary discovered that Ms. Demulan was not as intimidating or difficult to get along with as the outside world had described. She had received a lot of help from her, and she herself had made mistakes from time to time when she first became her secretary.
However, Ms. Demoulins did not blame herself, but instead encouraged herself, which is why she was able to adapt to the job quickly.
Former Secretary Hafk Flamethrower: Bah! This is discrimination! Why was I almost scared to death before and no one cared? Isn't this bullying an honest person?
After listening, Demulan nodded in satisfaction. Although he did have some selfish motives in helping Mary, it now seemed that Mary was indeed a diamond in the rough.
"Very good, Mary, you're getting better and better. Now I'll test you. What should you do next?"
Demulan looked at Mary with a smile. Looking at the young Mary, Demulan couldn't help but think of his own youthful arrogance.
Before the explosion, she held a prominent position in the Hafk Group's offices. Now, what she taught Mary, Demulan no longer relied on the Relink brain-computer interface; the knowledge was deeply ingrained in her mind, and with the support of the Relink brain-computer interface, her memory had also been greatly enhanced.
She is helping Mary now, but isn't she also helping her younger self who had just joined the Hafk Group?
"Hmm... Let me think. We've done everything the space base can do and everything that needs to be notified. Next... I understand. I'll go and connect with the Tower of Babel right away!"
After a brief analysis, Mary immediately understood what to do next.
After listening, Demulan nodded in satisfaction. This girl is teachable. Not only is Mary beautiful and dignified, much better than the previous flamethrower soldier Hafk, but she is also quick-witted. He believes that she will be able to solve his problems soon.
"Okay, go ahead, but make sure to close the door behind you when you leave."
Demulan closed his eyes and leaned back in his chair. He waved gently at Mary and then said nothing more.
Mary responded and went out to coordinate with Ella of Babel and see how their preparations were going.
Mary gently closed the door, and then the entire office fell silent once again.
Demulan leaned back in her chair. It wasn't that she wanted to sleep during the day; rather, the side effects of the brain-computer interface had flared up again, and she felt another throbbing and sharp pain in her head.
Strangely enough, Demulan discovered that after meeting Zhang Hao last time, even though he didn't take his medication, the side effects from Relink didn't appear on time as usual throughout the entire day.
"Kami... help Mom one more time, and... Xiao Hao, son-in-law."
Demulan closed her eyes and experienced this inhuman pain. She also discovered that since she increased her daily dosage, her body seemed to have become slightly addicted to the painkiller. Every day at the appointed time, if she didn't take the medicine, her head would throb and ache even more.
"Rometheus, is this a real side effect, or did you... prepare it specifically for people like us?"
As the pain intensified, Demulan felt as if her brain was about to explode. She frowned, and her forehead was covered in sweat from the pain.
However, Demulan did not want to continue taking the drugs Rometheus gave her. The feeling of being like an addict disgusted her, and she could not allow this feeling of not being in control of her own body to happen.
"Kami... Xiao Hao..."
As the pain intensified, Demulan gradually couldn't hold on any longer. Her mind began to spin, and in the moments before she fainted from the pain, only the two people she cared about most remained in her mind.
. . . . . . . .
. . . . . . . .
Baksh, inside the Tower of Babel.
Rometheus was unusually absent from his lab today. The reason, of course, couldn't be the daily press conference. In Rometheus's view, such things were better left unattended. Even if the Mandel Brick was stolen, what did it have to do with him? He was only responsible for researching the Relink brain-computer interface.
Moreover, yesterday, the Relink brain-computer interface he developed specifically for Asara's children was successfully installed. All the test subjects had their problems resolved, such as the blind little girl and the colorblind little boy. Not only did they not experience any side effects, but their own defects were also resolved.
"Ella, have someone send these experimenters back. Oh, and give each of them a backpack full of resources. Consider it a reward for their bravery. Speaking of which, Hamk is really capable. Compared to Reese, he recruited significantly more volunteers. It's just that some of them were uncooperative after waking up."
Reis: Of course! Even though I'm a tyrant, I still protect my own kind, unlike that beast!
Rometheus summoned Ella and asked her to send all the children whose problems had been solved back. He was pleased that the experiment was successful on the first try and had not resulted in any deaths. In his view, this meant that his technology was steadily improving and that it was only a matter of time before it benefited all mankind.
"Okay, Doctor. By the way, Hamk sent a message saying that he has found another group of elderly people with health problems, saying that it doesn't matter if they break, it's all for the sake of establishing friendly relations between the two sides."
As she continued speaking, Ella couldn't help but frown, and Rometheus's good mood seemed to be affected as well, but he still waved his hand to indicate that things would proceed as usual.
"Hmph, huh? Who sent the message?"
Just then, a message from Mary appeared on Ella's computer screen. Rometheus glanced at Ella, who had walked away, and his curiosity was piqued. He secretly looked at the computer.
"Hehe, let's see what that old woman Demulan's new secretary and my lovely student council will talk about."
Chapter 115 Gossip
Rometheus opened the email, expecting to find some "little secrets" between young girls.
But when he opened the email, he looked disappointedly at the schedule about their Babel Tower that had been transmitted to his computer screen and asked if everything was ready.
Rometheus stroked his stubble-covered chin, then glanced uncertainly at Ella to see if she had returned before replying:
"It should be... finished!"
On the other side, Mary was stunned when she saw the few words in the reply. Was this the same Ella who was usually meticulous and exemplary?
Mary immediately realized something was wrong; the person opposite her definitely wasn't Ella. Even if Ella was joking, it would be a lame joke. So she quickly asked:
"Who are you? Where is Ella now?"
Rometheus looked at the message and was at a loss for words. Was this the new secretary of Demulan that Ella had mentioned to him last week? She seemed a little dim-witted.
It seems she graduated from the same prestigious university as Ella?
Rometheus remembered that the person on the ground station seemed to be Ella's junior, maybe a few years younger than Ella, just in a different major.
Oh dear, my Ella is much smarter. Hmm... but teasing a fool once in a while can be relaxing. Rometheus is just bored out of his mind, and now that I think about it, teasing Demulan's little secretary seems like a fun thing to do!
"Ella, what a beautiful name."
When Mary saw this sentence, she panicked immediately. What happened? Could it be that Ella...?
Just as she was about to get up to report the situation to Ms. Desmulland, another sentence popped up on the computer screen.
"Don't tell anyone, or the Ella you're talking about... hahahaha."
Mary's breathing became heavier. She had no idea what was going on on the other side. Baksh's security system was not under the unified management of the Hafk Group. It was developed entirely by Dr. Rometheus and his security team. Therefore, the situation on the other side could not be detected through the Hafk Group's main network.
Mary glanced back at Ms. Desmulland's office, which was right next to her. Of course, if she went in now, she would probably only feel despair, since her pillar of support, Ms. Desmulland, had already fainted on the ground.
She replied tremblingly, "The enemy is in the shadows, and I am in the light. I dare not make any rash moves."
"What do you want? Do you know what you're doing? She's the secretary of Rometheus, the leader of the Tower of Babel, and let me tell you, their relationship is anything but ordinary. If Dr. Rometheus finds out..."
On the other side of the Tower of Babel, Rometheus was still smiling as he watched the screen, waiting to see what kind of fun the little fool could bring him. After seeing the reply, Rometheus began to read it carefully.
The first part was perfectly normal, and Rometheus could only shake his head, indicating that Demulan's new secretary was still somewhat inexperienced. However, after reading the following words, even someone as composed as Rometheus was shocked and his eyes widened.
Rometheus: No... I...? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Rometheus, who had been idly shaking his leg, suddenly stopped shaking it and sat up straight, staring at the computer. It seemed that the water here was deeper than he had thought. He never expected that he could discover the "little secrets" between girls by just teasing them.
"Oh? What could they possibly have to do with each other?"
Just as Rometheus was about to speak, Ella suddenly shouted from the front door:
