Chapter 38 Inquiry

Early in the morning, Lin Yu set off from his home to the police station.

After all, Lin Yu needed to take Qin Shuang to see Su Wan in order to avoid causing unnecessary trouble, so he definitely couldn't stay at Su Wan's house any longer.

He arrived at the police station early to make sure he was already at his workstation, handling a few unimportant documents, before Qin Shuang appeared.

The internal phone rang; it was Shen Bing calling.

"Lin Yu, come to my office."

When Lin Yu pushed the door open, Qin Shuang was already there. Today she was wearing a ruffled blouse and a light brown plaid skirt, with black stockings on her legs.

Seeing Lin Yu enter, Shen Bing said in a businesslike manner:

"Detective Lin, Ms. Qin Shuang needs to go to Ms. Su Wan's residence for questioning. You are familiar with the Chengnan area, so accompany her there and ensure Ms. Qin's safety and the smooth conduct of the questioning."

Qin Shuang looked up at Lin Yu with a sweet smile: "I'm so sorry to trouble you, Brother Lin Yu! I was just worried about not knowing the way~"

She leaned back in her chair, but shifted the position of her crossed legs, causing her plaid skirt to ride up a bit with the movement.

Then her knees turned slightly inward, and her calves lightly brushed against the edge of the sock on her other leg.

"I think Brother Lin Yu, you're a really nice person~" Qin Shuang's voice became a little lighter, her gaze falling on Lin Yu's slender fingers gripping the steering wheel:

Ten minutes later, the car turned into the street where Su Wan's apartment was located.

After parking the car, Lin Yu led Qin Shuang upstairs and knocked on Su Wan's door.

A few seconds later the door opened, and Su Wan, dressed in home clothes with her hair casually tied up, moved her eyes when she saw Lin Yu.

He then noticed Qin Shuang behind him, and his face showed just the right amount of doubt and a hint of vigilance.

"Detective Lin? And this is...?"

"Ms. Su Wan, excuse me." Lin Yu stepped aside and introduced himself in a formulaic manner:

"This is Ms. Qin Shuang from the Bureau's investigation team. We would like to ask you about some things concerning Director Chen."

Qin Shuang immediately peeked out from behind Lin Yu, a sweet smile blooming on her face:

"Hello, Sister Su Wan! I'm Qin Shuang. I apologize for the intrusion; I hope I haven't disturbed your rest."

Her overly enthusiastic and friendly attitude only made Su Wan more cautious.

Su Wan stepped aside: "Please come in."

The three of them sat down in the living room.

Qin Shuang took the lead as usual. She first gave Su Wan a well-placed compliment on the apartment's decor before getting to the point as if they were having a casual chat.

"Sister Su Wan, were you at the martial arts gym the night Director Chen had his accident? Did you hear or see anything unusual?" She held the water Su Wan had poured for her in both hands, her eyes clear, as if it were just a casual question.

Su Wan shook her head: "No, Chen Tianxiong hasn't come here much, and I haven't been to the martial arts school much either."

"Oh, I see." Qin Shuang nodded, not delving into the details, and instead asked about Chen Tianxiong's usual habits and the people he associated with, her questions being trivial and disjointed.

Su Wan's answers were brief, mostly consisting of "I don't know" or "I don't really understand".

Qin Shuang was not discouraged and maintained a high level of interest and approachability.

During the brief pauses in the conversation, she would sometimes suddenly talk about the stray cat she had just seen on the roadside, or marvel at the delicious taste of a certain snack in Jiangcheng, trying to soften the atmosphere.

Lin Yu sat silently on a single sofa a little further away, listening like a background figure.

About twenty minutes later, Qin Shuang's questions gradually subsided. A hint of impatience flashed across her face, but she quickly concealed it.

Su Wan didn't look at Lin Yu at all during the whole process.
