115 Lava Stalker
115 Lava Stalker
On March 17th, the second day of the "Bronze Project," Caesar and Zero from Group B went into the water to find the entrance to the Bronze City, while Lu Mingfei and Nono from Group A waited on the ship for their turn.
"We're not going to waste time looking for the way, are we? You're guessing that Dragon King Norton is incubating his body inside, so even if we have to use a bomb, we should blast open the entrance," Lu Mingfei said.
"It will take the Dragon King more than six months to develop a usable gigantic body," Manstein said. "If we haven't found an entrance by today, we'll try using bombs."
"They're coming up," Nono nudged Lu Mingfei.
The two ropes were quickly pulled back, and Lu Mingfei stood by the side of the boat waiting. After a while, a white figure emerged from the water and slowly rose with the ropes.
Lu Mingfei reached out and grabbed the person in the white diving suit. "Thank you for your hard work, Zero."
Because the deck was too slippery, Zero stumbled and fell into Lu Mingfei's arms. He quickly caught Zero and took two steps back with the impact of her fall.
Lu Mingfei looked down at the girl in his chest and asked, "Are you alright?"
Zero removed his helmet and said, "I felt the vibration in your chest. Were you talking to me just now?"
"I said this white wetsuit suits you very well, it looks great on you." Lu Mingfei then remembered that Zero was wearing a helmet and couldn't hear what was being said outside.
"Why is no one here to greet me?" Caesar said regretfully. "I think this gold diving suit suits me very well too."
"Come on, with your shiny gold appearance, you're practically a hatred absorber on the battlefield," Nono said dismissively.
"Team A, get ready to go into the water," Manstein walked over. "Zero just discovered a very wide crack in area S13. Go in and take a look; it's very likely the entrance."
"Okay." Lu Mingfei picked up his black wetsuit and skillfully put it on.
"I don't understand why you're so good at wearing tight clothes..." Nono glanced at Lu Mingfei's slightly angular figure outlined by the diving suit, then went into her room to change.
"Zero, help me zip up my zipper," Lu Mingfei said.
"Okay." Zero walked behind Lu Mingfei and helped him zip up the back of his diving suit.
"Help me unzip my jacket too." Ling poked Lu Mingfei's back.
"no problem!"
Zero turned around, gathered her hair up with both hands, revealing her swan-like neck and the zipper at the back of her neck.
Lu Mingfei gently pulled down the zipper, marveling at how perfect the design of this zippered diving suit was, requiring two people to put it on or take it off.
"You two, are you done yet?" Nono said unhappily. "You're still being all lovey-dovey during a mission. I think you might as well go and win Norton over too."
To be fair, when Old Tang, who hadn't remembered the Dragon King, faced Constantine, he actually stood in front of Lu Mingfei, offering him five million and telling him to run away.
I wonder how much of Old Tang's image Norton still retains? Lu Mingfei gently shook his head.
"Why are you shaking your head? You're too scared to flirt with Norton?" Nono put her hands on her hips.
"I think your red wetsuit is awesome!" Lu Mingfei gave a thumbs up, jumped back, and plunged into the water.
"What's wrong with you? Why are you suddenly acting all cool lately..." Nono muttered to herself, and then jumped down as well.
The spotlight beam could only penetrate less than 5 meters into the river. Before Lu Mingfei's eyes was a dense, dark green, murky water filled with floating debris.
The pressure gauges showed they had descended to a depth of 50 meters. The high-pressure gas mixture of helium and oxygen was forced into their diving suits, helping them resist the external pressure and making them look swollen like Michelin Man figures.
Hehe, looking at Nuonuo's inflated wetsuit, Lu Mingfei couldn't help but laugh out loud.
"What are you laughing at?" Nuonuo said angrily. "You were laughing nonstop yesterday when we went into the water too! Was it that funny?"
"I also think Lu Mingfei's threshold for laughter has become very low lately," Caesar's voice came through the communication channel.
"You have arrived at your designated location," Manstein said.
"It looks really deep," Nono said, glancing at the crack. "Lu Mingfei, do you have claustrophobia?"
"I think you've become more aggressive lately, Nono." Lu Mingfei swam to the top of the crevice and adjusted his posture.
"What are you doing? The standard procedure is for both of you to descend together." Nono looked up, wondering what had gotten into Lu Mingfei.
"Nono, look!" Lu Mingfei did a split, "A straddle dive!"
"Ah..." Nono followed Lu Mingfei helplessly, "Do whatever you want."
They held hands in the water, relaxed their bodies, and were slowly dragged down by the heavy lead weights on their belts.
After descending another twenty meters or so, a wall appeared in front of them, stretching infinitely up, down, left, and right. Under the spotlight, it shimmered with an ancient bluish-green hue, covered with mottled rust like a layer of cotton wool. Within the foamy rust grew unidentifiable plants, their slender tendrils swaying gently with the water flow.
"We're here," Nono whispered.
"This looks like a city wall. I remember when I came down last time, there was a gate that you could go straight in." Lu Mingfei looked around and found a human face on the bronze wall. He swam over to take a look.
"Don't touch it. That's a guardian spirit that can only open the entrance if you have a high purity of dragon blood," Manstein said.
"I didn't touch it, but the door was already open."
Nono had just taken out the blood sample when she turned around and saw the living creature's mouth wide open, growing ever larger. Her vision went black, and she instinctively grabbed Lu Mingfei's wrist, and the two of them were simultaneously swept into the vortex.
When she opened her eyes again, she was surrounded by air. Nono got up from the ground and looked around.
"Is that right? Where does the air come from underwater?" Lu Mingfei asked. "How does such a large space withstand the water pressure?"
"I suspect this is Norton's Nibelungen," Nono said, pointing to the communication line. "But there's a problem; our line is jammed."
The black rope, which served as both a communication line and a lifeline, miraculously inserted itself into the bronze wall behind him, seamlessly connecting with it as if it had been cast into the wall.
"Can you hear me, Moniach? Please respond if you receive this," Nono said.
"Received, Chen Motong! Lu Mingfei! What's wrong? What happened?" Manstein asked.
"We've entered the interior of the Bronze City. The interior is vast and filled with air," Nono said, taking out an air quality monitor. "The monitor shows we can breathe."
"It seems the Dragon King evaded our surveillance on land and water and returned to his palace by other means," Manstein said. "He is a reptile and breathes oxygen, so there must be oxygen in his home. In other words, he is currently nearby."
"The only problem is that the communication cable is embedded in the wall."
"We hadn't encountered this problem before, so we weren't prepared and didn't bring any adapters," Manstein said. "I suggest you probe nearby, don't go far, and then come straight back."
"It's okay, I'm here, we can continue. Anyway, we don't lack air now," Lu Mingfei said.
"You're the team leader, I respect your judgment." Manstein agreed with Lu Mingfei's suggestion. "Ninety minutes. If there's no news in ninety minutes, I'll have Team B dive down to provide backup."
Lu Mingfei removed his helmet, turned off the oxygen valve, and the diving suit retracted.
"Nono, you look like a big fat person."
Nono also turned off the oxygen valve and said irritably, "You look like a big idiot."
