Chapter 87 The Omnipotent Lynx
Chapter 87 The Omnipotent Lynx
At the top of the Ancient Tree Forest, the largest fire dragon's lair, which was usually bustling with activity and filled with the roar of dragons, was eerily quiet tonight.
More than a hundred fire dragons of different colors sat quietly on the trees outside the nest. Inside the huge fire dragon nest, apart from the slight movements of the lynx running and jumping, not even a heavy breathing sound could be heard.
The Silver Rathalos circled nervously in the sky. This powerful monster, known as the "Silver Sun," could fly with its eyes closed while sleeping and could fly for days and nights without veering off course, but tonight it was flying in a particularly sorry state.
It either forgot to flap its left wing and fell down, or forgot to flap its right wing and fell down. No matter how it flew, it was wrong. Frustrated, it wanted to fight with its own wings.
It kept a watchful eye on the persistent glow overhead, occasionally lowering its head to stare intently at the golden dragon shadow hidden by layers of leaves in the nest.
The old lynx chieftain, with scales of a golden and silver fire dragon pasted on his head, stood on a high platform built of stones and branches in the fire dragon's lair, directing all the lynxes in his tribe and about a hundred lynxes from other tribes to work together.
These little guys, with their dark orange fur, brown stripes, and cute brown cat paw patterns on their bellies, were busy kicking their heels and tails, and then their tails and the backs of their heads.
They all have golden or silver fire dragon scales pasted on their foreheads, and these shimmering scales allow them to freely enter and exit the fire dragon's lair.
The lynxes carried buckets of clean stream water on their heads, or held freshly picked leaves, or carried medicinal ointments for their respective tribes, moving back and forth in the fire dragon's lair.
From sunset until the full moon, they have been orbiting the Golden Fire Dragon for several hours.
With another painful groan from the Golden Fire Dragon, several lynxes with blood on their heads hurriedly ran out, grabbed a large bag of ointment, and quickly scurried back inside.
These kittens closest to the Golden Fire Dragon are the most experienced midwives from various lynx clans.
Perhaps due to Aotu Na's arrival, the energy concentration at the top of the tree, which was already rich in ley line energy, increased several times over, which shortened the time it took for the Golden Rathalos to breed its baby Charmander eggs.
Hearing its mate groan in pain, the Silver Rathalos, its wings flapping and unable to fly, nearly crashed into a tree. The hearts of all the anxiously waiting Rathalos near the nest also skipped a beat.
Some of the more impatient female Rathalos even bared their teeth and growled at a lynx that happened to be passing by. Despite having Rathalos scales on their heads, the Rathalos were not used to these little things and did not understand why the Silver Rathalos had gone to such lengths to bring over a bunch of these little creatures.
The lynx trembled under the watchful eyes of several female fire dragons until a blue fire dragon, its entire body glowing blue except for its red tail, arrived. It spread its wings to protect the lynx behind it and growled at the restless fire dragons.
Once the female Rathalos calmed down, it turned to face the trembling lynx, rubbed two blue scales off its body, and gave them to the frightened lynx's paws.
The other fire dragons didn't know what these little guys were capable of, but the one that almost died did.
Normally, when a fire dragon is injured, it can only heal itself by licking itself or by its mate licking it. However, these little guys have all sorts of ointments that can greatly speed up the healing process when applied.
Ever since Silver Rathalos last met these little lynxes, it and its partner Gold Rathalos have quickly grown fond of these all-powerful lynxes.
Upon receiving the kindness of a powerful fire dragon, the little lynx, who was initially a little scared, immediately cheered and jumped for joy. It licked its blue scales, happily stuck them on its head, and then climbed down the tree on all fours.
The ointment wasn't enough, so it had to go back and dig out some more.
Witnessing all this, the old lynx chieftain breathed a sigh of relief. He was brought by the silver Rathalos to the side of the gold Rathalos, which was about to lay baby fire dragon eggs. This old cat, who had seen countless storms, was also somewhat nervous.
It looked up at the real moon, judged the time, listened to the Golden Fire Dragon's rapid breathing, and estimated that it was about time. Then it arranged for several little female cats to bring in a large plate of meat jerky coated with honey.
Before long, the few female kittens, their fur soaked from being licked, came out, looking dazed.
They chattered and meowed, gesturing towards the old lynx chieftain.
"The golden, shimmering fire dragon inside devoured all the meat in one gulp!"
They even ate plates made of stacked leaves!
"They even licked us thoroughly!"
"And it even brought us some really beautiful golden scales!"
The old lynx chieftain tapped the excited female kittens with the branch he used as a cane.
"Then why don't we prepare some more dried meat for Lord Golden Fire Dragon? Remember to soak it in honey for a while!"
They meowed and ran away.
At dawn, with a painful roar, the Golden Fire Dragon finally collapsed.
All the fire dragons and lynxes looked toward the bushes.
When the few baby kittens who had been busy all night wobbled out and nodded to the old lynx chieftain, all the lynxes cheered, followed by the fire dragons roaring excitedly.
This is the first baby fire dragon egg to appear since Aotu Na arrived. Despite the threat above them, it didn't stop them from having a brief celebration.
The impatient Silver Rathalos swooped down, but then frantically adjusted its flight, landing lightly on the edge of the nest and cautiously peering at its mate.
As the lynxes peeled back the leaves layer by layer, the dragon egg, uniquely shimmering with golden and silver luster and protected beneath the golden fire dragon, appeared before them.
The silver dragon, instantly entering a state of excitement, emitted an extremely intense white light from its chest to its head. It couldn't even walk anymore, so it simply lay down on the nest and slowly approached, looking at the slightly swaying dragon egg with a mixture of ecstasy and bewilderment.
It wasn't until the golden fire dragon growled a reminder that it snapped back to its senses.
The abdominal cavity throbbed, and the rare minerals stored in the abdominal cavity were melted little by little. The molten liquid was slowly propelled into the mouth, and after cooling, it was spat out little by little onto the side of the fire dragon eggshell.
The same applies to the Golden Fire Dragon.
As a rare species of fire dragon, they are genetically influenced to absorb large amounts of metallic elements from their food and integrate them into their scales to form an alloy color.
As their offspring, the baby dragons in the dragon eggs also need metal elements, which can only be provided by their parents.
After spitting out a little molten metal ore, the Silver Rathalos ran to the Gold Rathalos to fawn over it. Just as it was about to lick its mate's sweat-soaked body, the Gold Rathalos, looking at it with disgust, shoved it away.
With a low growl, the lynxes, carrying clear spring water, filed in one after another, holding small towels woven from soft cat fur, and gently wiping the golden fire dragon's body.
Isn't it better to be served by these cute little guys than to have a Silver Rathalos lick you with its sharp, hard tongue?
The dejected Silver Rathalos slumped to the side, feeling utterly rejected.
