Chapter 185 Attack
After Danitz entered the bar, Lorne did not immediately follow.
He lingered in the shadows of a distant street corner, observing quietly.
"listen-..-
Soon, Lorne realized something.
A faint, watchful gaze, tinged with a sense of voyeurism, was observing the tavern from somewhere nearby.
There's an ambush!
Lorne's heart jumped into his throat.
That person is quite strong, at least—comparable to me.
They probably haven't realized my identity yet, so I can't act rashly.
Lorne remained inactive. To some extent, he and the lurking spy in the shadows had formed a delicate, distant standoff.
However, right here—
"boom!"
A muffled explosion suddenly came from the direction of the bar!
Immediately afterwards, a small burst of orange-red light shot out from the side door, but it was quickly extinguished as if forcibly put out by something.
not good!
Lorne's pupils contracted sharply. He immediately realized he'd been tricked!
That was just a "bait"; the real attack took place inside the bar!
Sure enough, moments after the explosion, he could clearly sense that the feeling of being watched, which had been fixed on the bar, had disappeared.
Lorne immediately took out the black "Silence" ring from his pocket and put it on his hand. A cold, absolute rationality instantly flooded his mind.
He cautiously made his way to the alleyway on the side of the bar.
There were still obvious burn marks on the ground. A faint smell of gunpowder and a barely perceptible odor of blood filled the air.
The premonition of disaster has become very faint; the enemy should have already left.
Lorne activated his "Spiritual Vision" and scanned the area.
He then took a coin out of his pocket and tossed it high into the air.
"Danitz was ambushed."
The coin tumbled in the air and finally landed heads up in his palm.
"really--"
Lorne looked at the result and muttered to himself.
"They've been arrested—"
He glanced at the direction in which the spiritual remnants dissipated, then looked at the marks on the ground.
"It's been a short time since the attack. They—shouldn't have gotten very far."
The question facing Lorne now is no longer whether to save him or not, but how to save him.
He knew very well that he and Danitz were now in the same boat. Whether it was the "Disease General" or the Storm Church who had captured Danitz, once they managed to pry any information about him out of Danitz, his fate would be sealed.
It certainly won't be any better.
"This is a huge problem!"
Inside an abandoned warehouse.
Misor's figure hurriedly entered through a side door.
"Why did you take so long to get here? I've already taken care of him!" A tall man with skin as dark as a man's asked in an unfriendly tone, with one foot on the unconscious Danitz.
"Iron Man" McVitie.
"Outside, I spotted a sneaky little mouse," Misor casually replied.
"His accomplices?" Maiviti pressed.
Mithril shook his head and said, "Not sure. He's probably just an ordinary bounty hunter. After all, 'Flame's' bounty is quite tempting these days."
He ignored Maiviti and walked straight to Danitz, who was tightly bound. He raised his hand and, with a loud "slap," jolted Danitz awake from his unconsciousness.
"The 'Eloquent Speaker'—Misor?" Danitz slowly opened his eyes, looking at the person in front of him with some surprise. Then, he turned his head and saw the man standing on him.
"Steel"—bullshit! You two actually teamed up!"
"As Emperor Roselle once said, the enemy of my enemy is my friend." Misor said with a somewhat hypocritical smile.
Before he finished speaking, he suddenly raised his hand and delivered a powerful punch, slamming it into Danitz's face and knocking him to the ground.
"Ugh—" Danitz convulsed in pain on the dusty ground.
"Do you know what?" Misor crouched down, grabbed Danitz by the hair, and lifted his face off the ground, his eyes filled with venom.
"Because of your damned corpse, I—have suffered so much!"
"I was almost killed by the captain himself!"
Misor, still seemingly unsatisfied, delivered another vicious kick to Danitz's abdomen.
Seeing Danitz curled up on the ground, panting heavily, he grabbed the man's hair, lifted him up, and pressed his face against his, asking slowly and deliberately, "Now, tell me, what exactly is your captain's plan? Is that guy named Monkey Brando dead or not?!"
"I don't know what you're talking about—" Danitz managed to squeeze out a few words.
"Heh." Misor kicked again.
"Ah!" Danitz cried out in pain, and then fell silent.
"Give me the promised list of eight thousand." Maiviti, who was standing to the side, looked at the unconscious Danitz and stretched out his hand to Misor.
Misor pulled a money pouch from his pocket and threw it over.
McVitie weighed the bag in his hand, his expression immediately changing: "Are you kidding me? There's at most less than three thousand pounds in this bag!"
"This is a deposit," Misor explained. "I can only pay the remaining balance after I have safely brought Danitz back to the ship."
"The official bounty for 'Blazing Flame' plus the private bounty add up to ten thousand pounds! You think you can fool me with such a small amount of money?" McVitie sneered.
"I told you before, we were the ones who issued the seven thousand pound bounty. And without my intelligence, how could you have captured him so easily?"
"Hmph!" Maiviti snorted coldly, still blocking Danitz's way, showing no intention of making way.
"How about—you come back to the ship with me and get the money in person?" Misor suggested. "Do you think I'm stupid!" Maiviti laughed. Go back to the "Black Death" with you? Will he even come back alive?
Misor maintained a cheerful demeanor on the surface, but inwardly he was cursing.
The collaboration with "Iron" McVitie was entirely accidental. He had gone to great lengths to find a contact point for "Iceberg General," which led him to team up with this guy, who was also looking for Danitz, to set up this ambush.
The so-called "eight thousand list" was just something he used to fool this simple-minded guy; he didn't have that much money.
As for asking the captain for it? Forget it, it's already a blessing that the captain didn't kill him outright.
If we go to the captain for money again, he probably wouldn't have enough lives to live.
Just as he was about to use his "eloquence" to try and persuade the other party, a very faint strange noise suddenly came from outside the warehouse.
Their expressions changed instantly...
Maiviti stepped on Danitz's chest, signaling Misor to go out and check.
"hateful!"
The captain wanted them alive—Misor frowned and cursed inwardly.
But he still cautiously walked out of the warehouse.
However, he did not see anyone, only a pile of junk and a few playing cards scattered on the ground.
It looked like a pile of goods had collapsed. "Strange!" Misor scanned the area but found nothing unusual.
After waiting for several minutes without any further movement, he decided to return.
However, as soon as he turned around, he heard a crisp sound behind him—"
"Click."
"Bang!"
