Chapter 71 Thor's Invitation
Chapter 71 Thor's Invitation
The two stood under the moonlight, neither of them speaking.
"A fragment of an artifact," Thor broke the silence. "What is the true purpose of what you call a talisman?"
"Granting the holder power," the Holy Lord said, "power far beyond what ordinary people can imagine."
Thor recalled Odin's words, "power amplifier," and realized that his father was only half right.
"How many of these talismans do you have in total?" Thor asked.
The Holy Lord did not answer, but simply smiled.
Saul didn't press further: "I'm sorry about what happened during the day."
"Apologize?" The Holy Lord glanced at him. "Even the prince of Asgard apologizes?"
"I am not a prince," Thor said. "At least not now. My father is still in power, and I am merely his successor."
Is there a difference?
Thor sighed and said, "A prince can be willful, but an heir cannot."
The Holy Lord smiled wryly. He thought of the Demon Dragon. They were both inheritors, so why was there such a big difference?
Thor looked up at the moon and said, "I've been thinking all night about dark magic, about you, about Fury."
"What conclusion have you reached?"
"There's no conclusion," Thor shook his head. "But I've realized one thing."
"What?"
Thor closed his eyes and uttered the fact he had to admit: "The world has indeed changed."
"It has become something I no longer understand, more complicated than when I left, and I need time to adjust."
The Holy Lord nodded: "This is a wise realization."
"However," Thor changed the subject, "I will not abandon my principles. Dark magic is dark magic. Just because you can control it doesn't mean everyone can."
"No one is asking you to abandon your principles," the Holy Lord said. "I just hope you ask yourself 'why' before you swing the hammer."
Thor was silent for a moment, then nodded, thinking that what the Holy Lord said made some sense.
"this."
Thor raised Mjolnir and pressed his finger against the rune: "It's yours, and it should be returned to you."
The Holy Lord glanced at him: "Are you sure?"
Thor stated frankly, "This is your power; I have no right to use it."
"Your father gave it to you," the Holy Lord replied. "It is now yours."
"My father didn't know its origin, but now that I do, I can no longer keep it; it's the rule of the Asgardians."
The Holy Lord looked into Thor's eyes and smiled, "Keep it."
Thor was stunned: "What?"
"I said keep it," the Holy Lord repeated. "You need it more than I do, at least for now, and I can take it back at any time."
Thor frowned. "Aren't you afraid I won't pay you back?"
"You won't."
The Holy Lord sighed, "You are Odin's son, the heir to Asgard, and your pride will not allow you to do such a thing."
Thor looked the Holy Lord up and down, re-examining this mysterious man.
"You're a really unpleasant person," Thor said.
"Many people say that." The Holy Lord smiled, but the discomfort he expressed was completely different from what Thor said.
Thor hung his hammer back on his belt and remained silent for a moment: "You said before that you knew a lot of things, including things about Asgard."
"so?"
"Asgard has been having some problems lately."
Saul's voice lowered: "My father is not doing well. He is sleeping longer and longer, and waking up less and less."
The Holy Lord did not speak, but listened quietly.
"I suspect something is happening."
Thor continued, "Those things that my father suppressed for a thousand years may be about to awaken."
"Are you worried about Hela?" the Holy Lord asked.
Thor's body visibly stiffened: "You know Hela too?"
"I've said it before, I know a lot of things."
The Holy Lord said, "The Goddess of Death, Odin's first child, was imprisoned in Hel, the Underworld, and is your hidden sister."
Thor took a deep breath: "So you knew all along."
The Holy Lord asked, "So? What do you want me to do?"
Thor turned around and said solemnly, "I would like to invite you to Asgard."
The Holy Lord raised an eyebrow: "Invite me?"
"Yes."
Thor's eyes revealed sincerity: "Your power is special, and your control over dark magic is beyond my comprehension. If Hela really breaks free from her seal, I will need your help."
"Do you believe I can help?"
"I'm not sure," Thor admitted frankly, "but at least you're better than those Asgardian warriors who just mindlessly swing their weapons."
The Holy Lord chuckled softly, "Is that a compliment?"
"I guess so, so are you willing?"
The Holy Lord did not answer immediately: "I will consider it."
Thor nodded. "I'll wait for your answer."
Thor turned to leave, but after a few steps he stopped and turned back, saying, "There's one more thing."
"What?"
"About Fury."
Saul said, "I won't ask about the cause of his death, but if his death is related to you, I won't let you off the hook."
The Holy Lord smiled and said, "You can rest assured."
Thor's eyes regained their wariness, and after giving the Holy Lord one last look, he left.
"Master." Wanda's voice came from behind as Thor's figure completely disappeared.
"You heard everything?" the Holy Lord asked.
Wanda nodded. "Are you really going to Asgard?"
The Holy Lord looked up at the sky and smiled, "Asgard has what I need."
After a moment of silence, Wanda asked, "Did you already know that Thor would invite you?"
The Holy Lord turned to Wanda and said with a hint of approval, "You are very clever."
Wanda lowered her head, her cheeks slightly flushed: "I was just trying to understand my master's thoughts."
The Holy Lord said, "Then keep trying to understand. One day you may be even better than I imagine."
Wanda lowered her head to hide her shyness as she listened to the praise from the Holy Lord.
The next morning, the king came to the Holy Lord's room.
He held a book in his hand with no words on the cover, and an ominous aura emanated from it.
"Have you thought it through?" the Holy Lord asked.
Wang took a deep breath and handed the book over: "The power of this book is far more terrifying than you imagine. Are you sure she can withstand it?"
"She can," the Holy Lord said, taking the Book of Darkness.
Wang sighed: "You don't have the aura of this universe, or even the aura of those parallel universes. I don't know where you come from, nor what your true purpose is, but if you harm this planet..."
Wang paused for a moment, then his tone turned cold: "I will stop you at all costs."
"You won't have a chance," the Holy Lord laughed.
As Wang turned to walk towards the door, he stopped and turned back, saying, "I hope you really are just helping Modu."
The Holy Lord smiled and said, "The word 'hope' usually implies disbelief."
Wang Chen snorted coldly and left.
The Holy Lord opened the Book of Darkness and said to a corner, "Wanda."
