Chapter 2 Challenge Letter
Chapter 2 Challenge Letter
Moko has been in this world for about two months and has roughly figured out some basic information about it. This world is divided into the Navy, pirates, nobles and commoners. The Navy and pirates are enemies, the nobles rule the commoners, and above all, the nobles are the highest point of rule, an existence that no one can resist.
She is currently on a pirate ship, and strictly speaking, she is a pirate herself. Pirate, ah, thinking about it is quite exciting. Moko doesn't think there's anything wrong with being a pirate. After all, everyone on the ship treats her very well, just like family. And that's enough, isn't it?
"Oh, Xiao Mo is sunbathing."
Wearing a sailor's hat, Dong Gino carried a barrel of wine and walked over, waving to Moko in the cradle. Moko waved her little hands and responded with babbling. Dong Gino gently patted Moko's head with a smile on his face, played with Moko for a while, and then slowly walked into the cabin.
The cradle was made by Norzton working overtime. It was very ordinary in style, but it was made very sturdy. Yes, very sturdy. Even when the ship encountered storms, the cradle remained firmly in place. Moko once suspected that Norzton had added iron blocks to the cradle, otherwise how could ordinary wood be so sturdy?
Moko looked at the sky with some boredom. Shanks and Bucky were not here today. It seemed that Roger had assigned them some mission, and the two of them had gone off the ship to the island. Now there was no one to play with her.
When will Shanks and the others come back? As Moko thought about it, she started rolling around in the cradle, like a little dumpling rolling in soybean flour. It was so cute to watch. The cradle was specially lined with a soft blanket, and the railings were covered with thick animal hides, so there was no need to worry about her falling and getting hurt. Moko could play freely in the cradle.
Beside the cradle were many plush toys of various sizes and odd shapes. Why odd shapes? Because they were all hand-sewn by the people on the ship.
They were a bunch of grown men who could fight with ease, but sewing dolls was something they really weren't cut out for. But when they saw how cute and soft Moko looked, they were all full of fighting spirit and gritted their teeth and made it. Although it didn't look very good, Moko liked it unexpectedly, which made everyone extremely happy.
The dolls were ugly, but they contained everyone's heartfelt wishes. When Moko got close to anyone, she could feel their love. The warm feeling was just like the winter sun, very comfortable and without any sense of oppression. They were nothing like the vicious people described in the newspapers. The people who made the dolls for her were not bad people at all.
"Eeya~"
Moko rolled to the edge of the cradle, grabbed the railing for support, and sat up. Then, clutching a pom-pom toy, she looked at Rayleigh sitting beside her. Sensing Moko's gaze, Rayleigh put down his newspaper, got up, and picked her up.
"What's wrong, Xiao Moke? Are you hungry?"
Rayleigh's face was full of gentle smiles as he softly inquired about Moko. Moko shook her head and pointed her free hand toward the newspaper. Rayleigh raised an eyebrow slightly, picked up Moko, and sat back down on the recliner. Moko sat obediently in Rayleigh's lap, hugging her plush toy, and they read the newspaper together.
Perhaps it was a perk of being a transmigrator, but Moko could read the language of this world, which was quite good. She didn't need to learn it specifically, and it was precisely because of this that Moko quickly grasped the basic situation of this world.
The newspaper was from yesterday, so it seemed the paper bird hadn't arrived yet. Upon realizing this, Moko slapped Roger's wanted poster on her hand and turned to look at Rayleigh.
"Yeah!"
Rayleigh chuckled softly, "Hmm, does Little Mo want to go find her father?"
Roger was hungover last night and probably wouldn't wake up until the afternoon. Rayleigh was exhausted just thinking about the cost of buying alcohol. Holding a banquet every three days, and each banquet lasting three days, was something only his own captain would do. He really didn't know the cost of living until he was in charge.
(Beckman: No, no, no, my captain would do something like that too.)
Roger & Shanks: o(o?`3?′o)? Hehe! )
"Yeah ah!"
Moko waved the pom-pom doll in her hand, babbling incoherently. Rayleigh smiled and gently patted Moko's head. Moko's hair had already grown a short section; children's hair grows quickly, and it should grow quite a bit longer soon. Next time, he'd have someone bring back some pretty little hair accessories.
"Shanks and the others won't be back for a while. Does Xiaomo miss Shanks?"
Moko nodded. After all, Shanks was the first person she saw when she opened her eyes, and Shanks had been taking care of her all these days. She really hadn't gotten used to Shanks' sudden departure.
"They should be back soon, in about an hour."
Mo completely believed Rayleigh's words, since Rayleigh was in charge of everything on the ship, while Roger was a hands-off manager, though he was always the first to charge into battle.
Before an hour had passed, Shanks' voice came from afar. Moko was instantly wide awake, her eyes wide open as she looked around in a daze. Rayleigh couldn't help but find it amusing, and picked Moko up to walk to the edge of the ship.
A small boat was approaching from a distance. A flamboyant red-haired boy stood at the bow, waving happily. A blue-haired boy wearing a hat next to him was not to be outdone, waving his hands as if they were competing. Neither boy would give way to the other, and they pushed each other to get to the front.
As they approached the Jackson, Shanks jumped onto the deck first and took Moko from Rayleigh.
"Moko-chan, I'm back."
"Eeya~"
"Damn it, Shanks, you actually used me as a stepping stone!"
Upon hearing Bucky's voice, Moko turned around and saw a black shoe print on Bucky's face, along with his flat nose, making him look rather comical. Shanks turned his head away, pretending to be clueless, as if he wasn't the one who had stepped on Bucky just now.
Moko couldn't help but let out a silvery laugh, and Rayleigh shook his head helplessly. Ever since Moko joined the ship, these two clowns had become more and more mischievous. Oh, not two, but three clowns including Roger.
"Alright, how's the situation on that island?"
Rayleigh asked in a low voice, and Shanks also put away his playful appearance, his expression suddenly becoming much more serious.
"Yes, the troublemakers have been dealt with. Apart from the portion found on the ship this year, the rest of the Baileys have been returned to the people of that town. However, on the way back, I heard some rather interesting news."
"Hmm? What news?"
Shanks gestured towards Bucky with his mouth. Bucky, no longer in a hurry to argue with Shanks about the shoe print, handed Rayleigh the latest newspaper from his pocket. Rayleigh quickly glanced at it, his eyes narrowing when he saw a certain news item.
"It seems the newsbirds were indeed a step behind us."
As Shanks spoke, he played with Moko in his arms, while Rayleigh's lips curled slightly after reading the information in the newspaper.
"A samurai from Wano Country? Heh, perhaps the captain would be interested in this person."
What are you interested in?
Speak of the devil, and he appears. Roger walks out with his hair all messed up from sleep, looking like he had a terrible hangover last night. Roger first takes Moko from Shanks' arms and rubs her against him before taking the newspaper Rayleigh is handing him. Moko quickly finds the word "samurai" from what Rayleigh just said.
The samurai from Wano Country, who was living in seclusion, joined the Whitebeard Pirates. From the photos, he looked like a carefree person. Moko didn't see anything special about him, but Roger grinned.
"Hahaha, from the Kozuki family, Rayleigh, do you think this person can understand those characters?"
"Maybe... how about we go and meet him?"
Rayleigh adjusted his glasses and spoke in words only he and Roger could understand. Roger looked at the newspaper, a wild smile on his face.
"A samurai from a closed-off country, I'd really like to meet him if I had the chance."
Moko couldn't understand, and she was hungry at the time. After Roger picked her up, Shanks went to the kitchen to get milk. Moko drank milk at a fixed time, and the milk was always warmed in advance at that time, so she could just take it whenever she wanted.
Shanks came out with the milk, and Moko's waving arm caught Roger's attention. Roger saw Shanks with the milk and quickly handed Moko to Shanks.
He did want to feed Moko, but last time when he fed her milk, either Moko choked, or he thought about feeding her roast meat. When Rayleigh saw this, he gave Roger a severe scolding, and everyone explicitly forbade Roger from feeding Moko. At that time, Roger immediately squatted in the corner and drew circles, completely unlike a captain.
Roger: Can't I feed him roast meat?
Rayleigh: What do you think? (o_ov)
Jasmine, who hasn't grown any teeth yet, slowly floats by (?? w ??)...)
After experiencing Roger's fatherly feeding methods, Moko realized that her clueless dad was completely unsuitable for raising children. It's true what they say, a dad's job is just to keep the baby alive. If she ever finds another baby, she definitely won't let her clueless dad raise it. (Clueless dad Roger: (???^???) All the joy of raising a child is gone.)
"Captain, there's a letter from you, and it's a challenge letter!"
Jabba leaned against the edge of the second-floor balcony with one hand, waving the letter in his other hand, his face full of undisguised schadenfreude. When the others heard that it was a challenge letter, they all turned to look. They weren't particularly worried; their captain might be a bit dull on the ship, but his strength was undeniable. So far, they hadn't seen many people stronger than their captain.
Jabba leaped down from the second floor and handed the letter to Roger. Everyone watched Roger with expressions of amusement. Roger wasn't annoyed; he opened the letter and handed it to Rayleigh a few seconds later, then went back to teasing Moko.
Rayleigh rubbed his temples helplessly, unfolded the letter, and began to read. When he saw the challenger's name, Rayleigh's expression turned strange.
“Barrett, if I remember correctly, this kid seems to have destroyed a country all by himself.”
Moko was stunned for a moment upon hearing this. An entire country wiped out? One person? This really couldn't be a joke, could it?
"Looks like there's going to be a good show tonight."
"Captain, we can't lose! Hahaha!"
"That's for sure, I am Gol D. Roger! Hahahaha."
Seeing everyone's nonchalant and excited expressions, Moko gave up thinking. After all, the power of people in this world could not be measured by the standards of the previous world. People in the previous world did not emit black or red light, nor did they have those legendary Devil Fruits with strange abilities.
However, Moko is still quite curious about the battle that night. She wonders if her silly dad can defeat the person who destroyed a country. She's curious and wants to see (???).
