Chapter 295: Code of Fate
Chapter 295: Code of Fate
The collapse of the Void Incarnation brought a brief period of calm to the universe, but Ares, Selena, and Wagner all understood that this was merely the calm before the storm. Although they destroyed the core node of the Abyss of Time and restored some of the laws of the universe, the residual energy left behind by the Void still roamed freely in the universe like an invisible venomous snake, ready to return at any moment.
The spaceship cruised slowly through deep space, the atmosphere inside the cabin heavier than usual. Selena sat at the control panel, her brow furrowed as she analyzed the data; the energy fluctuations on the screen filled her with an unprecedented unease.
“This isn’t right,” she muttered to herself, her fingers flying across the keyboard. “We destroyed the Void Avatar, but the fluctuations of the Fate Code… haven’t weakened; in fact, they’ve become stronger.”
Wagner stood to the side, his brow furrowed, clearly sensing something amiss: "You mean, that guy isn't quite dead yet?"
“No.” Selena shook her head, her gaze still fixed on the screen. “The Void Avatar was indeed destroyed, but the Code of Fate… it seems to be being rewritten.”
Ares walked over from the side, his gaze calm and steady as ever, but his tone revealed a hint of vigilance: "Rewrite? How is that possible? The Code of Fate is the most fundamental law of the universe. No matter how powerful Nothingness is, it cannot completely change it."
Selena took a deep breath, adjusted the projector, and projected a complex energy image onto the center of the cabin. It was a seemingly chaotic energy network, but Ares and Wagner quickly discovered that a portion of this complex structure was being eroded by an unknown force, gradually becoming distorted.
“Look here.” Selena pointed to a region in the center of the image. “This is the core node of the Code of Fate, a key part of the cosmic causality. But now, it is being altered by some force, and this force… is more complex than anything we’ve faced before.”
Ares narrowed his eyes, pondered for a moment, and said, "This is not a simple energy fluctuation. It means that there is an entity that is directly interfering with the operating logic of the universe."
“Yes.” Selena nodded, her voice low. “Moreover, based on my analysis of the Code of Fate… this existence may not be just nothingness.”
“If it’s not nothingness, then what is it?” Wagner frowned, a hint of impatience in his voice. “Is there something more terrifying than nothingness in the universe?”
Ares did not answer immediately, but stared at the fate code in the projection. After a moment, a cold glint flashed in his eyes: "Perhaps we have been overlooking a possibility—nothingness is not the only threat."
Selena clicked on another layer, and the energy structures in the projection began to rearrange, gradually revealing a clearer picture. It was a complex code structure, like some kind of ancient symbol, interwoven into a giant spiral.
“This is what I discovered in the deep analysis of the Code of Fate.” Selena’s voice was full of solemnity. “These symbols do not belong to the void energy system; they are more like… traces left by some higher-dimensional being.”
"A higher-dimensional existence?" Wagner's eyes widened. "You mean, besides nothingness, there's something else controlling all of this?"
“That’s right.” Selena’s tone was calm and firm. “We used to think that nothingness was the ultimate enemy of the universe, but now it seems that it is just the tip of the iceberg. The real threat is these higher-dimensional beings—they are beyond our understanding, and may even be beyond the laws of the universe itself.”
Ares paused for a moment, then spoke: "If these higher-dimensional beings are indeed altering the code of destiny, then we must find them and stop their interference. Otherwise, the universe will be completely rewritten sooner or later."
Selena nodded and quickly operated on the console, amplifying the abnormal fluctuations of the Destiny Code: "I've traced the source of this power; it points to a forbidden area of the universe—the Tower of Destiny."
Wagner frowned. "The Tower of Destiny? What's that place?"
“The Tower of Destiny is one of the core nodes of the universe, and legend has it that the fundamental laws governing the universe are preserved there,” Selena explained. “If the code of destiny has indeed been tampered with, that is the most likely source.”
Ares gripped the rune sword tightly, his eyes flashing with determination: "Then we'll go to the Tower of Destiny, find the mastermind behind the code tampering, and end all of this once and for all."
The spaceship activated its warp drive and sped toward the Tower of Destiny. As they drew closer, they soon discovered that the legendary tower was not as magnificent as they had imagined; instead, it appeared unusually simple—it floated in a desolate region of space, surrounded by no starlight, as if the entire space was suppressed by an invisible force.
“The energy fluctuations here are very strange.” Selena frowned. “It seems we have entered a completely isolated space where the rules of time and space from the outside world have lost their effect.”
The spaceship slowly approached the Tower of Destiny. Ares, Selena, and Wagner donned their combat gear, preparing to enter the mysterious tower. They knew this adventure would be more dangerous than ever before.
The moment they stepped into the Tower of Destiny, the three immediately felt an immense sense of oppression. The space inside the tower seemed to stretch infinitely, each floor filled with unknown energy fluctuations, as if the entire tower itself was a giant energy body, ready to collapse at any moment.
“The energy here is too strong.” Wagner gripped his battle axe and looked around. “We must be careful. We may encounter the residual power of nothingness at any time, or even… those higher-dimensional beings.”
Selena quickly scanned her surroundings, her expression gradually turning serious: "I've detected the source of the fluctuations in the Code of Fate, right at the top of the tower. We must get there as soon as possible."
Ares nodded and led the team toward the top of the tower. However, they had barely stepped out of the first level when they were blocked by a powerful force—a mysterious guardian appeared before them, clad in black armor, wielding a massive energy sword, his eyes gleaming with a cold light.
“You shouldn’t have come here.” The guardian’s voice was deep and cold. “The Tower of Destiny is not to be desecrated. Any existence that attempts to change the code of destiny will be annihilated.”
Ares raised his rune sword and coldly replied, "We're not here to change fate, we're here to save it. If you stand in our way, then prepare for battle!"
The guardian sneered and swung his energy sword, slashing directly at the three. Ares quickly met the attack, and the rune sword and energy sword collided fiercely in mid-air, erupting with scorching light, causing the entire space to tremble under the powerful energy impact.
The battle between Ares and the Guardians was like a collision of stars. Every clash of blades was accompanied by a powerful energy explosion, and the surrounding space was constantly distorted, as if the entire tower was about to collapse at any moment.
Wagner and Selena assisted in the battle; Wagner wielded his battle axe, attempting to distract the guardian, while Selena used energy weapons to attack its weak points. However, the guardian's defenses were extremely robust, leaving virtually no openings.
"This guy is too strong!" Wagner gritted his teeth. "We have to find its weakness, otherwise we simply can't defeat it!"
Selena quickly analyzed the Guardian's energy fluctuations and finally discovered a subtle anomaly: "Its energy core is near its chest, but it's protected by a special barrier. Ares, your rune sword can penetrate that barrier!"
Ares's eyes flashed coldly when he heard Selena's words. He took a deep breath, concentrated all his power on the rune sword, and the blade emitted a dazzling light as he thrust it straight at the guardian's chest.
The guardian seemed to sense the danger and swung its sword to parry, but Ares was faster; the rune sword pierced through its defenses and penetrated its energy core. The guardian let out a shrill scream, its body rapidly disintegrating into countless specks of light that vanished into the air.
“We succeeded.” Ares sheathed his rune sword, panting heavily. “But this is just the beginning. The real threat of the Code of Fate awaits us ahead.”
