The Heart Sutra, also known as the Mahaprajnaparamita Heart Sutra, was translated by the Tang Dynasty monk Xuanzang. In its previous life on Earth, it was hailed as the king of all sutras, and could even be considered the general outline of all Buddhist scriptures. It is also the shortest Buddhist scripture, with only 260 characters in total. Many people can recite it, but very few can truly understand its Zen meaning.
It's not that the Heart Sutra is difficult to understand, but rather that knowing it is easy, but putting it into practice is extremely difficult.
It contains great compassion, great perseverance, and great wisdom. Even Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva needs the protection of the World-Honored One Tathagata to observe all phenomena.
The true Heart Sutra, however, is not only 260 characters long.
