Chapter 582 You Have to Treat Everyone Equally!
Chapter 582 You Have to Treat Everyone Equally!
The door to the private room opened, and a burly man walked in, his face etched with worry as if something had happened.
Upon seeing this person, Yang Qi’s eyes lit up. It was one of his best friends from university, Liao Fusheng.
He was supposedly running a big business in Sea City, though no one knew just how big. In any case, Chen Chong invited him to the class reunion every year, but he never showed up. He only came this time because he heard Lin Tao and Guo Yuxue were attending.
Just as Yang Qi was about to greet him, Chen Chong intercepted Liao Fusheng.
"Brother Liao, you finally made it! I’ve invited you all these years, but you never came. Thank you for gracing us with your presence this year!" Chen Chong said with a beaming smile, feeling his plan was about to succeed. With Liao Fusheng here, Lin Tao and Guo Yuxue were sure to come.
"Cut the noise!" Liao Fusheng shoved Chen Chong aside and walked over to Yang Qi. "Little Qi, you’re here too? Why didn’t you say anything? I heard about what happened to you. It’s a shame I’ve run into some trouble myself and can’t help. I’m truly sorry."
Yang Qi quickly shook his head. "Brother Liao, you helped me more than enough back in university. You even lent me a whole million when I started my business. That was nearly all of your savings."
"You still remember that, huh?" Liao Fusheng laughed. "But what’s going on here? Why are you sitting at this tiny table?" He turned to Chen Chong and growled, "You bastard, have you been bullying my brother?"
Chen Chong looked awkward. He hadn’t expected the big boss, Liao Fusheng, to still remember Yang Qi, let alone treat him so well. It was truly infuriating. But he didn’t dare offend Liao Fusheng, since he was still relying on him to build a good relationship with Lin Tao and Guo Yuxue.
"Brother Liao, you still remember him after all these years?" Chen Chong said helplessly. "He’s bankrupt now, and his woman ran off with another man."
"I know. So what? Just because he’s down on his luck doesn’t mean we’re not friends anymore? You bunch of snobs are despicable. It’s a good thing I never came to these reunions before, or you all would have angered me to death," Liao Fusheng cursed, showing Chen Chong and the others no courtesy whatsoever.
Everyone looked at Yang Qi, green with envy. His luck was incredible. Even after going bankrupt, he still had such a good friend. With a little help, he could easily rise again. If Liao Fusheng put in a good word for him with Lin Tao, Yang Qi’s fortune would be made. They were all consumed with jealousy.
"That’s not what I meant. We’re all old classmates; there shouldn’t be any distinctions between us," Chen Chong explained. "Brother Liao, it’s great that you’re good to Yang Qi, but you should be good to us as well. It’s only right to treat everyone the same."
Qin Shuang chimed in, "Brother Liao, please, come sit over here. We’ve arranged a seat for you next to me. Brother Tao is coming later, and you’ll be sitting with him."
"To hell with ’treating everyone the same’!" Liao Fusheng retorted. "You didn’t talk like that back in university. Yang Qi is my best friend. You all can sit with whoever you want, but I’m sitting with Little Qi." He walked over, but when he saw the table was only big enough for two, he paused, troubled.
"Brother Liao, don’t worry about me," Yang Qi said, shaking his head. "I came uninvited, so it’s normal there isn’t a seat for me. Brother Tao and Sister Xue are coming, so you should go sit over there."
"But that’s completely unfair to you, isn’t it?" Liao Fusheng asked.
"I don’t feel slighted. On the contrary, it’s quite peaceful," Yang Qi replied with a smile. He had indeed come today for Liao Fusheng, but they could chat anytime.
Liao Fusheng shot Chen Chong a fierce glare before finally sitting down at the main table. However, he straddled his chair to face Yang Qi and started peppering him with questions, making Chen Chong and the others want to die from embarrassment.
"Liao Fusheng! You can’t do that! When Brother Tao gets here and sees this, it’ll be incredibly disrespectful to him!" Chen Chong said through gritted teeth.
"That’s right. Brother Tao’s status is far greater than yours now. Don’t act like this, or people will look down on you," Qin Shuang added.
The others joined in, unleashing a verbal assault.
Just as Liao Fusheng was about to explode with rage, Yang Qi stopped him. "Alright, Brother Liao. At the end of the day, Chen Chong organized this reunion. Just put up with it for now."
Hearing this, Liao Fusheng reluctantly turned back around in his seat and gritted his teeth. "Who’s sitting next to me?" he couldn’t help but ask.
"Brother Liao, do you remember Miao Yue?" Chen Chong said with a smile. "Besides Guo Yuxue, she was the most beautiful girl in our class, hailed as one of the two campus belles. Miao Yue will be sitting on your right, and Brother Tao will be on your left. It’s all been arranged."
He had really gone to great lengths to curry favor with Lin Tao. He even paid Miao Yue one million yuan to wait on Liao Fusheng, hoping that if she kept him happy, Liao Fusheng would in turn put in a good word for him.
Liao Fusheng’s expression darkened, and he was about to curse out loud. He knew that back in university, Miao Yue and Yang Qi had briefly dated.
"Brother Liao, what’s past is past. Just stay put," Yang Qi said.
For some reason, Liao Fusheng felt that Yang Qi was different from before. His words seemed to carry a strange power that made them impossible to resist.
From their conversation, Yang Qi learned about Liao Fusheng’s current situation. After graduation, Liao Fusheng had stayed in Thunder City and gave his first earnings to Yang Qi for his startup. Later, he moved to Sea City, where he met a mentor who helped him get into business and prosper. When his mentor passed away, he took over the company.
It was called a big business, but in reality, it was just a security company along with a few bars and KTVs. Business had been slow lately. More importantly, Liao Fusheng had offended a powerful figure in Sea City, plunging his company into a severe financial crisis. Even so, he had never asked Yang Qi to repay the one million he had lent him. Liao Fusheng’s business wasn’t actually that large, and one million yuan could solve many of his current problems.
Liao Fusheng had come to the reunion in Thunder City for two reasons: one was to look for investors, and the other was to hide from trouble. Someone wanted him dead. Of course, as he spoke, Liao Fusheng didn’t expect anyone to actually help him. Who would dare cross a powerful figure from Sea City? Not even the current Lin Tao and Guo Yuxue could afford to. He was just venting.
Just then, the door opened again. A woman walked in whose beauty rivaled Guo Yuxue’s, but she was dressed so flamboyantly she looked as if she were trying to transform into a femme fatale. This was none other than Miao Yue, Chen Chong’s trump card for the evening. He believed all men were suckers for a pretty face and that Liao Fusheng wouldn’t be able to resist Miao Yue’s allure. The plan was to have Miao Yue seduce Liao Fusheng. Once he was on the hook, getting close to Lin Tao and Guo Yuxue would be much easier.
Miao Yue stood there, flaunting her charms and shooting a disdainful glance at Yang Qi.
